clam run ideas
I came across this article that had to shacks that could be a good choice for us!
The North Shore section of Massachusetts owns two of the best clam shacks in New England -- the Clam Box (246 High St., Ipswich, MA, Tel. 978 356-9707) and Woodman's (Route 133, Main St., Essex, M., Tel. (978) 768-6057). Woodman's get most of the glory as it is arguably the first clam shack in the country, and keeps it reputation alive by serving wonderfully greasy fried clams, but The Clam Box might be a tad better -- the clams have less grease and a better taste. The Clam Box - Woodman's debate is sot of like a regionalized "Taste great-less filling" conversation (remember the Miller beer commercial), with no clear-cut winner. We recommend flipping a coin, and then going to the Clam Box (which is architecturally and masterfully shaped like a clam box).

Both these places are great. There is also a really nice place down the road called Periwinkles. Ipswich/Essex are absolutely amazing during the summer. I suggest we combine this clam shack thing with a beach thing. In Ipswich there is a great great beach called Crane's, which is very popular, and also has a number of dune walks too.
Might be interesting to hit the beach, then hit up the clam shack(s)... |

I go there every time I'm up in Ipswich. I hit the dunes, hit the beach, then hit that place for some food. Sometimes I also hit the farm near the beach, you can pick your own strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apples. They also have some farm animals that you can pet, including a HUGE pig called "Big Boy".

Ipswich drive is super nice if you get off of 95 and take RT1 or 1A (forget which one) then take Ipswich Road. Crosses the Ipswich river, which you can rent canoes on. Very fun. Last time I did that it was pouring rain but 100 degrees, good time.
Till the lightening started. With the aluminum canoes. |

I think we should start off simple..... Cuz seriously, the logistics of 15+ cars traveling the back roads (which we still have to figure out a route) safely, is gonna be hard enough. So why don't we start with Woodmen's of Essex? Then if this works we'll move on to bigger and better things.
edit: for the sake of disclosure : Getting seafood was Roldan's idea last year for a meet this summer.....
