4500 miles = new rear brake pads.

Well,

The dealership may have fixed all those problems I was having (they had an official BMW engineer working on the problem with the dealership) -- and it appears they did the service bulletin work that was released about rough idling. I haven't had a problem yet, but I only got the car back yesterday. The car actually feels pretty solid now unlike it did before... so that's a good sign... making me a little less nervous to drive it.

However, I was driving back this morning to work and a service notification about my rear brake pads came up. According to my manual, this means I need new brake pads very soon (I.e., I need to schedule an appointment).

Guess it's going back to the shop. Hopefully they can just put it up and see a quick fix. It's gotta be a sensor. There's no way brake pads go in 4600 miles of casual driving (haven't even red lined or tracked it).

Odd. Being as you have driven gently, it seems strange you need pads at all, not to mention REAR pads! Very strange. Keep us posted.

Nothing to worry about, it's just that somebody at the dealeship has been going babanas with you car - handbraking / backsliding all over the place!!

just kiddin of course

Probably its the sensor - let the tech have a look at the pads themselves and there lies your answer!

Yeah, I know they've been doing a lot of work on the car with the service bulletin and the crap before that... also had a nail in my rear left tire (not near the side wall) so they patched that (patching isn't recommended, but I'm getting new tires anyway in the summer, and I don't track the car)... probably messed up a sensor when doing that I assume.

Taking it by tomorrow.

dont complain, at least your brakes are FREE (included in your warranty).

Us Canadians arent as lucky, we have to pay for brakes. And the front alone is $1600 CDN.

That blows. I had no clue the Canadian M's didn't get brakes included with their service warranty. Does the price of the Canadian M's cost less than those in the US because of this?

NOPE!

It actually costs more for us Canadians, but we do get some better stuff, for example heated seats is standard and so is comfort access. In the US, those are options!

Unfortunatley, we don't get free brakes or free wiper blades though, it sucks!
