Just talked to my CA

He said it will arrive at the port on 7/26 and it will arrive at the dealer by the end of the month. I told him to make sure not to drill holes in my front bumper for the license plate and he tells me a whole story about how he got pulled over for it

pulled over? in his own car? what does that have to with your car. is he required by law to mount a license plate frame on the bumper?

after I asked him to dont drill holes in my bumper because I dont want the front license plate he started telling me a story about how he got pulled over the other day for not having it. Well in the end I still told him I dont want it and he goes ok I will put a note to make sure they dont but there is a possibility they already drilled holes on the front bumper when they built the car. I dont buy into it at all but it is out of my control at this point I just hope they didnt drill it for me.

Ah....no possibility they drilled when the car was built.

Dealer puts on the plate during prep.

Well, I can't vouch for that story, but it is my understanding that all vehicles arriving at port HAVE to be drilled for front license plates. This is mandated by CA DMV as a newly regulated program to boost red-light camera tickets. Apparently, the state was losing too much money on citations where the vehicle did not have a front plate. My CA told me that they implemented this 1/06 to raise money for the fiscal year.

I specifically asked him as well when my car was being built. I actually confirmed with him 3x, but when it arrived, and he double checked, it had already been drilled before he had any say. Hope that helps...

And when I say all cars, I mean ALL BMW's..not sure how it works with other vehicles, but I assume if it's regulated by DMV, it applies to all.

that is exactly what he told me actually. He said because of the red-light camera tickets that is why there is a chance they already drilled the holes I guess time will tell

on another note those camera tickets are killers. Its pretty amusing because they send you a letter with pictures taken and than they give you a link to the website and you can see a video of it. One of my friends got it and it was quite hilarious because there is no way you can deny it after seeing the video so I suggest you guys be careful not to run reds anymore or at least know which streets have cameras.

Hmm...that just does not seem right.....cars arriving at port....do not just stay in California. Some will go to other west coast states. Why would CA DMW rules apply to all of those??

I simply do not believe dealers when it comes to giving me reasons as to why the car is not exactly like we discussed, or like I requested.

Maybe you should poll people here who have picked up their BMW's during the past 1-3 months for West Coast or even just Calif deliveries....and see how many have no holes in the plates.

I guess time will tell its not that big of a deal to me but my preference is to not have it there. I just hope they install the pedals for me when it gets to the dealership.
