Lowering the car on springs?

I know there are a lot of threads dedicated to this, i did a search but after going through a few pages i got a lot of info but not answers to all my questions so hopefully you guys can lead me in the right direction.

How is my car going to handle/ride if i just switch over to lowering springs? I had my last car (E46 M3) on Tein springs and it didn't ride that much differently then it did with the oem springs. I just read a thread about a guy having issues with some H&R springs. Should i just cancel out H&R? There is a race and a sport version of springs? I imagine race gets you lower?

What type of lowering spring is highly recommended? I have read that Eibach is pretty good? Will i have to switch out my shocks as well when i do this?

I don't want to go with coilovers because this is just for cosmetic purposes, i am not going to be tracking the car and i don't need a huge increase in handling but it would be nice if i could go lower with keeping the handling and ride quality the way it is now (Oem)

I've got Tein springs on the OEM sport shocks. It's a little stiff but not bad at all. Dropped it pretty good IMO.

Your handling will not improve with lowering springs. It will feel stiffer which is often misunderstood for improved handling. The reality is with lowering you have modifed the suspension geometry to a point that often degrades the abilities of the car from stock. It will definately degrade the ride quality, but it will look cool. You will also shorten the life of your stock shocks. IMHO, lowering springs are a waste of money unless you upgrade the shocks as well. Even then you need to make sure you have not lowered the car to the point where you sacrafice the suspension geometry.

I agree with Nikolas...I've had springs and coil overs. IMO springs are for looks, coilovers are for performance. I'm using springs to lower my ride until I can afford a nice coilover set. Waste of money???? Maybe so,but it'll do for now.

Eibach will only it the least and has the best ride quality, H&R sport will bew a bit lower and stiffer. Those are fine with the stock shocks. H&R race will out it down at leat and inch and a quarter and will be tough on the stock shocks and struts. I base all these on my E46 which had H&R race with stock shocks/struts which blew and leaked within 15K miles, I added Koni yellows and it handled great but the ride was way too stiff, 19" with 35 series tires also contributed to that as well. I'd go Eibach's myself but only expect a half inch drop which cosmetically is perfect IMO.

Still not sure on which to go with here. Does anyone have pics of their drop? I don't want to go with coilovers because i don't need an improvement in handling and performance its fine as it is. Just want it to be a little lower, looks too high right now.
