At least for installing coilovers, the consensus is that you should not pay more than $500. Alignment should be somewhere around $100 tops. Some shops would re-adjust the height (after the first install) at no charge...you'll have to shop around in your area.

The inches of drop depends on what tire setup you are getting. If you are staying with stock wheels/tires you can drop the car pretty aggressive (tucked in look). If you get wider wheels/tires and you drop too much you will have problems during cornering.

Dropping the car is almost as dumb as intentionally making it sound loud and obnoxious like the muffler fell off.
