MODS and leased car???
Hi everyone,
I have a very general question...I noticed that most of us here lease the cars..now does it make sense to put out all that money on MODS when we know we have to return it?? & also when u take the car back...does dealer oppose the roof spoiler ...trunk lip etc..??? I recently baught 325i and want to do lot of MODS but this question always comes in my mind??? what do u think.... Thanx |

Your best bet is to ask your individual dealer this question since they all vary. I personally wouldn't put on any mods that cannot be easily removed but many others just go for it and pay fees when they return the car or luck out and have a dealer that doesn't mind.

These pieces, rims ect. can be easily removed before you return your car, then sell them and use that money to buy new mods for your new car. Its basicly the same as buying it and trading it in. 3M tape is your friend on this. Enjoy your car and make it your own for the 3 years you have it..

I leased an Audi S4 (B5) for a little under 4 years. It had a lot of mods. I was able to sell the chipped ECU and my rims before turning in the car. Thing like short shifter, suspension, etc are tough to take off so I left them on and no one said a word when I traded the car in for the Z06. Go for it

If you're turning in or trading in at lease-end, then definitely remove the mods. If you sell privately, it MIGHT make sense to leave them in place - if you can find the right buyer who actually wants all the stuff and is willing to pay some sort of premium.

Remember that a leased car is owned by the leasing company - BMW financial for most of us in the US. I think the lease agreement somewhat spells out what can be done and what not. If I remember, and I'm not a lawyer, any none BMW part is "not" allowed. Depending on other things you dealer may actually buy the car and they may not care or may want some of the mods. If I remember the turn in documents (and you can see these on owners circle in BMWUSA site, things such as tinting are real no-no's for them.
I'd look at the lease documents and not accept anything the dealer says unless it is in writing and signed. Things like wheels are easy because they can just be taken off. Wings, they may make you pay for removal and repairs to holes etc.

If you plan on keeping the car you can buy it and/or sell it with the parts on. Depends but I wouldn't go into a lot of changes for the car...just simple things. |

just keep all your stock parts...i dont understand why a lot of people sell their OE stuff when they mod, cuz often times they end up needing to sell their mods + stock parts when they go to return the car or sell it. I always keep my OE parts and when it's time to sell it's that much easier.

I would not do any mod on a lease vehicle since you have to turn it in after three years beside all the money on labor to have them swap back to OEM parts.
