I had mine changed. I believe most people here are having it changed

some may disagree, but i dont think that any fluid used in a car should be lifetime

so does that mean i should have had it changed?
i assume it cant cause damage to the car or be a big deal, i will check the manual, to see if it says theyre supposed to change that.

Yes it should be changed for your car, since you have a 6MT. The service tech was wrong, so take it back and ask them to change it.

IMHO yes. This problem arised because when DCT came out there were several instances in which the techs changed the DCT fluid (DCT doesnt need the change) and used the manual transmission fluid, ruining the DCT transmission. The confusion was because the SMG transmissions need the same services as the manual one and use the same fluids. My speculation is that to avoid that problem BMW now recommends no oil change at all but I havent seen anything in writing. Check http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=341406
