if you don't go with a top line full synthetic you're asking for HUGE trouble

if you SEARCH in this forum, you'll find out that:

1. BMW's free maintenance doesn't cover a break-in oil change (1 year, or 15,000 miles)... so when you take it in for maintenance at 2500 mi, they'll probably only do the oil change you requested and charge you $100.
2. The US Castrol full synthetic is not on the BMW list of approved oils because it's different here than it is in Europe.
3. You can use the dealer oil, which is BMW branded european castrol.
4. An alternative full synthetic that is on the BMW approved list is Mobil1 0W40.

I did my oil change myself for my 1st E90... it's easy. $12 for a filter with gaskets at the dealer, $45 for 7 quarts of Mobil1 0W40 full synthetic. Not cheap for that oil, but $57 sure beats paying $100 at the dealer... although you can say your time is worth the $43 difference. I'll be changing my own oil at 1500mi on my new E90 as well.

I paid $120 Canadian for my break-in oil change. Did it at approx 3000km.

When I took the car in, the service interval was still sitting at 25,000km before the next oil change (has not budged), and did not update after the oiil change. About a week after (200km later), it moved to 24,000 kms. Is this right?
