Anyone have any experience with Euro Delivery?

I'm looking to take Euro Delivery on our next car, and wanted to know if any of you have any experience with this.

What's the best approach for negotiating the price of the car? Negotiate the deal, then drop the ED bomb?

TIA!

Yep, I did in 2006.
You can get more info from wiki page and this thread.

MOST IMPORTANT PART - find a salesman who done this before and not 1 time.
Then find ED Invoice and build your car with all options at invoice price. Then add between $500 and $1000 to your price (no MACO and advertising fee) - that your price.
Good Luck!

If you have specific question - ask.

There's a sticky in the Car Ordering board. Lots of good information there.

Apparently, Irv Robinson is the go-to guy around these parts for ED. He's a sponsor here.

Spend some time on Bimmerfest... Their ED forum is a wealth of info.
As other have said, look for a Bimmerfest board sponsor that has experience with ED...
Most dealers do not..

As to your questions.. No, the best way to negotiate an ED deal, is to email a few dealers and know the ED invoice price of the car you want including options... (info available on Bimmerfest ED forum)
In your email, specify the car you want, and the price you are willing to pay in terms of ED invoice + $XXX
Do not forget that you do not have to pay MACO or training fees for ED
Then wait and see which dealer bites on the deal

Good luck, I have done ED let me know if you have specific questions

All - thanks for the quick (and plentiful!) responses. I will spend some time educating myself on the ED forum.

Specifically, I will likely be looking for help on setting up our itinerary. There are a few places we want to hit - I DEFINITELY want to do the nordschleife, but that will take us in an entirely different direction than stuff my wife wants to do!

We were thinking something like:

Fly into Paris -->train to Cologne (rent car here, do nordschleife)-->train to munich-->drive to salzberg -->drive to switzerland

Very early on still...

ED is great. Any Qs send me a PM.

For price start from ED invoice. Check out the section on buying here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30

For a dealer I recommend working with your local dealer. If you have a CA that you got your previous bimmers from s/he should be handle ED with no problems. Cinci is a big town, I'm sure your dealer has done lots of EDs.

Good questions. The ED forum is your friend.

Also - for trip suggestions, check out the ED wiki link (posted above). I wrote about 1/2 of it.

Also for the 'ring, see:
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=304011

(one guess as to where the picture below was taken...)

It's an awesome experience. I am 100% glad that I did it!

My next one will be euro-delivered as well.

If feasible, opt for the performance delivery too! (EuroDelivery + Performance Delivery was Amazing!)

Shoot for ED retail minus some bucks. My '09 was one the first 09 deliveries and I got it for less than ED retail. The price stuff is around this site somewhere.

Wow, under ED wholesale invoice! I should have been saving up my pennies for a 2010 ZMP DCT... But my current ride has been so good to me that it only seems right to keep her long term

I did ED last May. Talk to Irv Robinson at Motorwerks BMW in Barrington IL.
847-304-0398 or irobinson@motorewerks.com
He is a Euro Delivery Specialist and will take good car of you.

See my post on this page:
Irv Robinson

All you have to do is negotiate a price above invoice and that's it. I think I paid $1000 over invoice, and the invoice prices are very up front. There are no tricks or surprises.

I plan to do this every few years and would recommend Irv without hesitation! In fact, tell him I sent you.

Highly unlikely - the dealership doesn´t make anything outside the small markup on the car to begin with. Unless you are counting a model-specific incentive, a price under invoice is simply not realistic nor is a price just a few hundred dollars above invoice.

Is it okay to continue my original post here? If so, a few questions after researching - according to Ben Lovejoy's page (and others) it looks like a rental car at the 'Ring isn't a real possibility. Am I understanding that correctly? Big penalties from the rental car companies...oh well. I don't know how much of a fan I am of taking my wife's brand new car for a thrashing on the 'ring. I imagine I'd shave miles and miles off of the street tires and brakes...

What's the consensus, deal locally or deal with Irv Robinson? If I deal with an out-of-state dealer, how would I go about getting my car delivered when it arrives? Do I have to go to the dealer from whom I bought the car? Although I've bought several cars from my local sales guy, I've heard our dealership is kind of clueless when it comes to ED.

Not true. I believe there are several companies that rent cars incl. Rent-Racecar.de.

Lots of people have taken their new BMWs on the Ring. It's not as if you are doing 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

Consensus is to deal with someone who is experienced. This is why over 20% of all BMW e.d. purchasers actively participate in this forum. The forum has multiple sponsors who are very experienced and you can pick the one you like.

Buying from someone whom you know to be clueless is a really bad idea.

You don't have to drive flat out on the 'ring to enjoy yourself. In fact, your wife would likely pewk if you did. Just check on the insurance, or rent, or get a ride on the taxi. Truth be told there are a lot of great drives in Europe that you would likely enjoy as much or more than the 'ring, and waiting for a time on a nice day is not the best way to spend precious vacation days.

In regard to ED experience, I never saw what there was that was so difficult that it could be screwed up. The folks that handle the orders @ BMW USA are extremely competent. So I would talk to your local CA and see what s/he says.
