Alarm help

I am still looking for some help with the install on my alarm (2008 328i w/Idrive) and anyone who can "activate" it for a better price than what the dealership is asking. I am in New Port Richey near 54 and little rd. I wouldn't mind throwing a few sheckles to someone for the help w/ the install. This is my first BMW and would be nice to learn alittle about the car with someones help. Also, Does anyone have the specs to the jacking point for the little square under the car. I read somewhere that someone had a piece of wood cut to fit so they could get the wheel off the ground with a normal hydrolic jack. It seemed like a feasible alternative. Thanks in advance for any help.

Not sure about the Jack. What do you mean exactly? I use a standard heavy duty aluminum 5 ton jack with coasters on rear and wheels on front. Big sucker. What's the wood for?

As for the alarm, it shouldn't be that tough. The hard part is if you need something to "activate" it. This is probably an expensive tool. Mostly, alarms are just splice into this wire or that wire, and you're done. With a BMW one, I would think it would probably be mostly plug and play. What questions do you have on alarm install?

I was referring to the jack points under the car. I have an e90 and there are hollow square shaped slot near each tire. I saw one member had cut some wood that was long enough to fit inside and sit on the coaster part of his hydrolic jack. I am going to probably try it this weekend. As far as the alarm. I wasnt' sure how to take off the cover in the engine compartment referrenced in the how-to on this forum. I guess I am just afraid of breaking some plactic tabs or something while removing it.

My jack came with a rubber pick with circular ridges in it. I just use that. Works fine. Which engine cover are you trying to remove?

You could just use a hockey puck if you are worried about scratching. Again, mine came with a round block of rubber with circular groves cut in it so it doesn't have metal to metal touching. Not sure the benefit otherwise of what they are doing. If you are on level ground you probably don't need anything.

As for removing that cover, it's pretty simple. Go to this site, play the first video, and watch how easy it comes off.

The video really helps. I wasn't aware they pop off that easy. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. It's safe to say it's not as complicated as it looks. Thanks again.

No Problema. I took those off to put in the JB3 Pinout and Laser Interceptors. BMW is pretty easy to work on for the most part. Things are pretty straight forward and clean. Harder is cars like Jaguars.
