What is this

So my car was on a lift yesterday and a friend of mine noticed something was missing on the Front drivers side suspension.. Do any of guys know what this is for and what it connects to? I noticed that only the left side of the car has it.

And Im guessing it connects to this...

That is your xenon light verticle aim controller! Where did the regulating rod go?

Just noticed you have a 330i, do you have xenon? If not, you are okay without it.
