Need help! limp mode, rough idle, SES light on
I have a 2008 335i AT, Procede v1.45 (yes, I know it's old), mileage about 27K miles; have had the Procede ever since it was first sold and haven't had problems for a long time.
anyway, here's what happened: I was almost home after driving from work about 18 miles away (so yes, the car was warmed up)...was driving normal. got w/in a mile from home, then suddenly my car goes into limp mode, the SES light comes on and my idle is around 600 RPM and it's a very rough idle, so rough the car is shaking. I thought it was going to stall at the stop light. when the light turned green i drove a block and pulled over. while accelerating slightly, the car was sputtering felt like I was running on 5 cylinders or something and that there was some sort of misfiring. i shut down the motor and waited for 1 minute and restarted the motor. the rough idle was gone and the car ran normal....then about a minute later, the same problem reoccurs: limp mode, SES and rough idle, sputtering while accelerating. one clue is that I filled up a full tank of gas this morning at a 76 gas station I have NEVER been to. however, I don't want to automatically diagnose this as a bad tank of gas. any other ideas??? |

Failed HPFP. This is covered under a recall, need to take it to the dealer.

1.47.....WOW that many decades ago! lol......To tell you the truth, it happened to me once also when I decided to change gas brands for the one time and my car went into limp mode....Went back to my old SHell 93 and it has never happened again...It might be coincidence, but who knows!

Let me know how it turns out. (Hopefully you dont spend to many days driving around in Limp mode and then figure out it is the HPFP like so many other people have had to have replaced in the e90 335i).

If it's a misfire, it could be several things. Since you are tuned, spark plugs are the most likely cause. Even if it isn't the cause, it's a good idea to change them out, and then you can go from there.

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...ID=83300495560 still negotiating w/ a guy on this board to do it for X-dollars. what's a complete ripoff is the N52/N54 Spark Plug Torque Adpater Tool for $169!!! you can buy a brand new torque wrench for about $70, and you'll be able to use it for all other projects. with the N52 torque adapter, it only has 1 setting. |

They hosed him for over $100 !!!!! I was walking through a local automotive parts store yesterday and saw a 14mm 12 point deep socket for $3.95. That is why they are called stealerships. |
