Can we drop the military ranks?

Maybe not the issue of the day, but it seems to have some support. I mentioned this in a post in another thread earlier today, but I really think that whoever decides what the "post count ranks" are should drop the military references. I put this idea in my User Title, now at least one other guy has followed suit, and I got a PM agreeing. In a few hours.

This is offensive to people who are in the military (or were) and earned their rank with far greater difficulty than post whoring. And their supporters aren't going to like this cheapening either.

It is also offensive to people who don't want to be associated with the military and may have strong beliefs in that direction.

In fact, it seems the only people it would appeal to are those who want to play soldier, but not pay the price.

I know you can change your User Title (I did!), and I know this isn't an earth-shaking issue, but how about going to a conventional "senior member" type rank, or even go creative. A motorcycle board I frequent uses terms like "hooligan". But military ranks? Just bad taste.

this is the first time ive ever heard of such a complaint. you make a pretty interesting point and it does make sense to me, i suppose. you should post this in the 'site feedback' section of the forum to attract attention from the admins.

*twirls finger* woopeefriggindoodaa. If some jackhole gets offended because of the military rank, they need to cancel their internet subscription, box up their computer, and take it back. The internet is no place for pussycats that get offended over a forum using military rank.

Do you know how many other games use military rank? Just about every military game out there does. You should start writing letters.

although you sound like a dick i have to agree with you, it's online do you know how many things that are on the internet that offend people....

I spent almost 23 years in the Air Force, and it doesn't offend me.

I have to agree. We should lose the rank system. Ranks are used in the Military and the Military has one function - to kill people. I would rather not be associated with people who kill people for a living.

doesn't even matter. completely irrelevant to military ranks. no offense, but this really just doesn't seem like a valid complaint to me at all. there's far more offensive stuff out there. i mean, c'mon, it's the freakin internet. everyone hides behind an avatar and goes crazy.
