Anyone tried Evolution Performance Driving School?
I'm thinking about signing up for the Phase 1 class at the end of Feb. Has anyone taken a class from them? I'm a complete noob, never did any performance driving school or track day.
Reviews? Comments? Thanks! |

I've done Phase I twice, Phase II and Phase III once each, and Challenge School about 4 times now.
Eh, it's okay. I generally attend every year to get in shape for the season. No matter how good you think you are, or how novice you are, there's always more to learn. The challenge school is pretty intense, in that you are actually competing against national champions, going 10/10's on your car, including letting them take your car out to get used to it before they give you times to beat. Challenge also introduces taping the windshield so that you can only see out the very top of the windshield, which teaches you to look waaay ahead, and not at the cones right in front of you. I'm 3 for 4, besting the intructors, with the last three years bettering a few national champs. Generally, they give you some 8/10ths, and 9/10ths, and if you beat that, they go all out... For phase I, you'll learn basics. Actually, they drill the basics into you, which is a great way to learn, before you get bad habits ingrained into you. By mid-day, you'll defintiely be seeing your times drop more and more, and (probably more importantly) you'll begin to know why certain runs were slower than others. |

Larry,
That is good to know. We are thinking of having them out to do our autox school this year. I may even go as the car is clearly faster than I am. |

For autocross, you usually just shift to 2nd gear and stay there. No heel-n-toe required, unless you want to get all fancy at the finish of a run.
Heel-n-toe is usually done while decellerating at the track. Evo school is an autocross school. |

If you looking to autocross competitively, the Evo school is a must. I've done phase 1 and phase 2 twice. I whole heartedly recommend it. But if you looking for a track school you will need something more than Evo.
While attending the little schools that go with NASA HPDE the generally tell you to learn heal-toe while driving on the street. They seem to believe that the track isn't the place to learn heal-toe.

I wanna be able to do tracks, but I think I should start with AutoX. At least learn some basics before I start banging thru gears.
Thanks guys. I guess next thing for me to do is sign up |

Call your local chapter's autocross chairs and tell the you would like to have a local Evo School. If they can organize one with the Evo guys, you'll have a local event. That's what the Boston chapter does.
We've had the biggest Evo event in the country for a few years now. |

I have attended Evo School here in jacksonville 3 times. Darin Desimo (Nat Champ), Mike King(Nat champ) are usually instructors when we have it in Jax...

For an autocross event or school you should not have to worry. The speeds are generally low (sub 65) and there are no walls to compete with. The most serious injuries I have seen at an autocross were both minor suspension problems that were pretty inexpensive to repair.
Track days are a different story, but an EVO school or BMWCCA CCC should be fine. |

I've completed Phase 1 class and Phase 2 a while ago. I need to re-complete those again now after I took a break from truck driving. Don't worry I think they can teach anyone to drive well.
