First Impressions...

This was the best 30 mile drive to work i've ever had...

-The truck moves effortlessly with 4.8. The power is perfect.
-In an SUV...you don't drive...you OWN the fn road. My past 3 cars were a 3 series sedan, a 335 coupe and a z3. What a TOTALLY different experience.
-It drives like a sports car...not a truck...that's what amazes me most. It think maybe it's because its the middle of the winter and I've been driving the 335 coupe with performance tires...but that car slid all over the place...where as this thing feels absolutely glued to the road.
-It's amazing how high up I felt. When I pull into the lot here in the morning, I would normally have to reach up to get parking lot ticket ticket. Now I was looking down...
-The new car brake smell is awesome!!! Somebody needs to bottle it!!!

I agree with you on how the X5 4.8i feels like. It's just a superlative vehicle. But you were driving in winter your 335 with performance tire? Were they winter performance tire or summer performance tire? You're lucky to be alive if they were summer tires.

They were summer tires. I drove it in the cold but not in snow or rain. They were bad even in the cold...

Below 7C the degradation in performance is significant. The rubber gets really hard and the grip is suffering.

Ya...the car would slide a great deal. It wasn't ideal.

The x5 feels like it's glued to the road.

Sounds sick. Enjoi it. You did right going with the 4.8; I drove a 3.0 for about 3 weeks and I could not handle its lack of power whenever I would alternate with my 335i.

I'm amazed with how easily it moves and how it sticks to road...easy to forget it's a truck.

Now throw 4 Nokian Hakka SUV's on it!

Have had several AWD SUV's, all equiped with snow tires (we drive 3 hours to our ski cottage every weekend so they are a good investment) and between Volvo XC90's (2) and a Toyota Sequioa (08 with Blizzaks) nothing even comes close to the all weather capability of the X5.

Its a little small but a way better drive than the others.

What also amazes me is how little I have to change my driving style from my M3 to the X5 when driving in the dry. Typically I'd always have an "oh sh1t" moment in the other SUV's untuil I remembered I wasn't driving the M3.

Great SUV.

All part of my devious plan to make the X5 my winter driver, turn the M3 into a garage queen over winter and get my wife and kids something they can trash (thinking Sienna AWD van). The X5 is almost too nice for them!
