BMW Performance Exhaust

Hello all 1 series owners, I just installed the BMW Performance exhuast today. I am very happy for that. Its really worth it to spend that much money. I was going to get Remus and Cpe. However, I end up with the performance part. Its pretty loud when I thought.

My buddy used to owned a z4 and he had a Remus exhaust. It is so different. He drove it today and he got jelous and a little bit pissed since I got it.

I have the same, it's a lot more throaty than what I expected, and at low rPM's under load it really groans (not such a good thing), but once the revs hit 4000 it has a very pleasing note.

The sound is much more impressive if you are standing on the street and the car is doing blow by's.

How much did you pay for the exhaust and installation, and where did u purchase it, at your dealership, also did you have your dealer install the exhaust to keep the warrenty? Just curious to know because I am thinking about buying one myself, the only thing that is stopping me is the ridiculous price that only gives you good sound, and very little HP gain. But if I get a deal on it, i might consider, so I'm curious to find out what other people payed for their performance exhaust, and the installation.

Is the BMW performance exhaust just an axel back system like the Remus?

Almost, the BMW exhaust has you cut off the resonator from behind the secondary cats, so it's not exactly a straight forward bolt-on mod. Here's pics from Dan@United BMW's group buy thread:

Hi windmaker,

Think you could post a video of your 128 with this exhaust? I've seen several 135i videos, but so far as I know no one has put a video of the 128i with the BMW performance exhaust.

I ask this because I'm considering one myself.

It does give a wee bit better throttle response over stock.

I paid $995 and $109 for installation. If you go on the BMW website, it should tell you how much does the exhaust cost and installation fee. Yes, I did it at my dealership. I said its worth it (the price). I dont really need HP. I want the sound better than my stock exhaust so I chose this. It sounds like a PIG (very deep and loud). I got it from the BMW website. It took me 3 days. I got the appointment quick because I know someone who works at the service dep.

I will not get the Remus exhaust if you are considering. As I said before, my friend had it on his z4. It was not loud enough after a year. When he got it the first day, he was so disappointed. Spending $300 moreI think its better.

Note: the same kit on the 135i is $1453 -- I wonder why its so much more??? I'd think its the same exhaust system....guess not!!!

What is the HP gain on the 128 / 135 ?

I am like you -- I don't care about the HP gain, but I wouldn't mind having a throatier exhaust note!!!!!

Also -- any GAIN on mileage -- seems like if its freer flowing, you may get better mileage???

I dont know they are the same or not. I do know I can put the 135 stock exhaust to my car, so I will think they are the same part, just different price. However, the 135 costs $100 more than the 128.

About the mileage, I dont know LOL. I rev to 6000 rpm and higher everytimes once I got it since I want to break in quicker. I will try tomorrow morning when I am going to work. My stock exhaust had around 27-29 (going to work).

I'm jealous of your mileage -- I get 20 going to work (5 mile drive). I drive what I say "moderate." I juice it at least once a trip...but I really don't take it all the way to the redline too often. I wish I got 28MPG -- def jealous of that.

Visit my website next time for a MUCH better deal than what your dealer gave it to you for... Glad you're enjoying the exhaust!

In this case (128i) it's just a muffler only.

Anyone interested in the exhaust PM me for the best price!

So it's not really an axel back if it's all pipe from the cats through to the back muffler. The middle muffler/resonator goes?
