Fitting M tech steering wheel?

I have a 120d m sport with a standard three spoke multifunction sport wheel and want to fit a m sport version with the coloured stitching. Its a late 2004 163bhp car. Does anyone know if it possible to simply buy a new wheel and use all the internals of the old wheel, airbag, mounting bracket and multi function controls?
I have followed a thread on the E90 forum that indicates it is possible on the three series. Thanks.
