Potentially OT: alternative, interesting LA -> Vegas route

I may need to be in Vegas for New Years and driving is really the only option. I typically just take the 15 late at night but am looking for another, hopefully more interesting route to/from Vegas. It will obviously be longer, but if it gets me around the typically stupidity that you generally encounter on the 15 I'm all ears.

Any ideas that get me to and/or from Vegas would be appreciated, especially if they avoid snow. I will be starting from the Los Angeles area.

Thanks in advance.

Never tried this, but my co-worker suggest to get on the 190. It's probably snow there now tho. He said you can pretty much do whatever the hell you want there. He said he hit the speed limiter there

That does look like a rather interesting route, but snow at this time of year might be a significant concern. Looks like you do get into some decent mountains with this route.

If you are looking just to cut off about half the time on the 15, many folks I know do take the first part of this route as suggested but then take the 58 over to Barstow and then hook up with the 15 from there. It adds about a half hour versus a theoretically traffic-free 15, but that is usually not the case on just before New Years.
