I need help taking my dash apart...?

So basically the long story is I've bought all the parts to retrofit bluetooth and wired them together, now I need to get it into the car...

I've spent a week browsing the web looking for instructions on how to do it, but have completely failed, so I'm going to write a complete beginner write up of this as soon as I've worked out what to do!

So where I am so far:

My dash:

I felt underneath and found a ridge that could be pulled on, so pulled it out and felt like nothing was happening, tugged a bit harder and snap it flew out. It's held in by a few clips all the way around and in the middle, 2 are unfortunately broken but having now replaced it there doesn't seem to be a problem because of that and it holds firm.

Anyway all I could get this to was hanging out like this:

I have read conflicting reports saying that the Climate Control should just come out with it, and some saying you need to release the screws and some saying there are clips, and I can't figure any of those!

So although I can look behind:

I can't for the life of me figure how to get this off and get to the next stage, anybody who's done it care to enlighten me?

Many thanks for your time!

Tim

I know I've seen a writeup on this......search around before you go pulling on stuff. Look for the Center Console Removal thread, I think that might help. Just don't want to see you break anything else...

Found that thread, it's about the gear lever bit though, I'm on the front panel.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks!

So I've just spent half an hour having another go at getting this off:

But there are 2 clips, immediately above each of the temperature dials that I just can't work out how to release, I can bend it up, but that's not exactly a solution!

As you can see here I've tried hard, but I just can't figure how to do this without snapping that front panel, it literally just bends, and pointers on doing this, or perhaps a photo of the backside of this panel so I can see what I'm dealing with?

I'm wondering if there is a clip to release the AC so that I can pull that out with the front panel? Although at the moment it feels very very fixed in place.

When I get this I'm going to write up something about it so all members can do this, even if you are as much of a newbie as me!

Many thanks,

Tim

So I've got the AC unit out yey! The trick was a little wedge on the right hand side; many thanks to grey1 for helping me out with that!

Well almost out, I am now stuck with it dangling like this:

Which is great and all but there are two connectors immediately behind that are massively confuddling me as to how to remove them? I'm guessing there's a trick to this - anybody able to enlighten me please?

Thanks again everyone!

Tim

press down to release the lock and then swing it down to lever the connector out of the socket.

are you pre-wired or not? if you are my thread may help as I got the factory bluetooth retrofitted using a TCU and parts from an e90, the TCU still registers the last 5 of the previous owners VIN because it's coded for that car, but it was enough to fool my 1er and it works!

I managed to do it back in December via the help of another 1er forum. However if anybody else posts questions on here I'll be delighted to try to answer them!

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know you broke 2 tabs. I circled one in your photo. Here is my radar detector install that shows some pics of mine broken and where they snap into the HVAC.

Go to the "Random pics for reference" page to see more close ups of the snapped tabs. http://www.estorilm3.com/randomradardiypics.htm

I know about that, I felt it at the time, hey I even said it in the bit you quoted!! It doesn't seem to be a problem though, no funny rattles or anything fortunately, slightly worried some might appear at some point though. Was definitely mighty depressed at the time!

Just stumbled across this - this lower piece here is the source of my squeaks/rattles. I need to find a way to hush it up!...or have the dealer do it.
