BMW F40 1 Series instrument cluster pinout

Hi all,

So I have been buying F10, F20 and F30 instrument clusters to virginise and sell on for a small profit for almost one year now, i've probably done about 50+ clusters in this time.

I have a GoDiag FEM/BDC tool which has the cluster power connection (12 pin), with 5 wires actually in the connection point (not all 12 wires are present). I have been using this to test all of the above vehicle cluster variants including basic, 6WA and 6WB and it's always worked fine.

Well this is the first time i've done an F40 1 Series digital one - I believe this is called the "Live Cockpit" model. It's the one that's fully digital that usually would show the map in the middle of the cluster, not the one with the digital dials.

I've replaced the 35128WT EEPROM it came with for another 35128WT EEPROM from Aliexpress. I used these replacement EEPROMS for another F20 basic cluster and that worked fine, so I know the replacement EEPROM isn't the issue - this is NOT an emulator it's an actual EEPROM.

The file from the original EEPROM was copied over to the cluster, but I wanted to use a new blank EEPROM to clear the mileage, since with many 35128WT's you can't replace the mileage (I have both CG Pro 9S12 and XHorse VVDI and have tried many times with the 35128WT).

Now upon soldering the new EEPROM down, it appears fine, all legs are on the pads and there's sufficient solder connecting them properly to the pads.

But when I plug in the FEM/BDC tool, the cluster screen does not come on. Additionally because this is the live cockpit unit and it does not use the fibre optic (MOST) connection found in older generation clusters, there is no RED Fibre Optic light to confirm the power is present and the cluster is working. Often with the older clusters you would press the "Trip" or "0.0" odometer button in the bottom left corner and the mileage, trip and temperature would show (often showing -40 or +40 degrees and 00000mls or 00000km along with 000 trip if it had been virginised).

But on this one, the screen doesn't come on at all, and there's no button I can see anywhere to actually force the cluster to display.

So the question is... how do I wake this cluster using a bench power supply?

I also have a DC 10-30V power supply and jumper wires which i've tried, but it doesn't seem to actually power on.

As far as I understood, all F series vehicles used the same pinout for the connector - which is as follows.

+12v
Pin 1
Pin 2
Pin 11 (For wake signal)

Ground
Pin 7
Pin 8

I've been using that pinout for the entire time i've been doing this and it's always worked - except for on this cluster. I don't believe it's an issue with the chip or my soldering as when I had the original EEPROM still fitted, prior to opening it up to virginise it, and powered it on the bench, it still wouldn't show anything on screen.

Do these use a different pin out?
Is there another wake up signal needed?

Or is there a hidden button i'm somehow missing?

I notice there is also a small fan inside the unit, which is connected, and all ribbon cables are connected and seated properly - i've triple checked them. The fan doesn't spin when I plug the power connection in but I assume it may not do that all the time, and only when the cluster reaches a certain temperature?

The part number of the cluster in question is 62105A76494
Also has the number 0263745299 shown, manufacture date on label of 2nd November 2022.

Any advice or guidance on this would be much appreciated.
