DIY Rear Sway Help?

Hi guys I read through all 6 pages of posts for a DIY for the rear sway bar. I read countless post that it is a PITA but I did not find a DIY. Did I over look one? If some one could just posts a few hints I am going to give this a shot tomorrow I have a Blackberry and will try to take photos as I go. Wish me luck guys I hope it is not as hard as I have read.

to do the rear sway you need to drop the rear subframe. Look for the DIY for the rear diff as it's on there.

You don't need to drop the subframe for a diff. Drop the exhaust to get it out of the way, there are 4 bolts for the subframe. Before you lower, you'll have to get some slack in the wheel speed sensor wires by removing them from the body mounting points. Also the brakes lines will need to be taken apart near the drivers front side of the subframe. Then you can lower the subframe. About 6" of drop will get you what you need to unbolt the bar and slide it out either side. But really a pia, but time consuming. You'll need a good jack to support the subframe and the car on jack stands unless you have lift access. Lift access is money in your project....

I followed the Eurotuner link when I did the rear bar. Those instructions worked fine, as well as the note above. Time consuming for sure. Send me a PM if you have specific questions.

I have a lift so this doesn't seem too difficult. However, I am wondering what type of jack you used to hold the rear axle?

A transmission jack works well for this, as they are designed to reach high for transmission removal while on a lift. Most shops with lifts also have these. Seen in pic 13 of that article. If you can't get one, you'll have to use a floor jack and keep the car low on the lift, making access a little trickier.

BTW - the article describes everything required for the rear bar install, notably:
Crimp and disconnect two rear rubber brake lines (rear left)
Unclip ABS wires running down the subframe
Disconnect rear section of exhaust (allows you to drop subframe further, otherwise it stops when it rests on the exhaust, which might not be enough for you)
Disconnect lower cross brace rear section (requires removal of the plastic mudflap trim to get at one of the bolts)
Remove four subframe bolts with transmission jack in place

I figured that a tranny jack would work but I want not sure if they would reach that high. I will probably give this a go when it cools down some.

I am not really intersted in completing this on my back so I will try to find something that reaches high enough.
