my first yellow engine light
my first yellow engine light
happened this morning. i have SSTT. it happened as i was on the freeway in 6th gear. I floored it to pass someone and the light came on along with the chime. it will prob be gone when i start it up later, or else i have to buy a reader. I had VW turbos and a vagcom reader for a long time and know these random codes can pop up such as overboost. but i havent heard of too many lights with SSTT, strange.. |

do you really think it was the sstt? ive had it for four months now, its only been removed for service, and i havent had any problems or codes other than adaptive headlight failure lol...maybe leave it out for a while and see if it comes up without the sstt installed.

In some cases it has been to due to the HPFP. With the added boost of the SSTT, it isn't able to keep up with the demand at high throttle.

I took five full cycles of on (driven for some period of time) and then off before my check engine light went off for your reference.

isnt that a catch-22 with the dealer? if i take it out, then it wont have a fuel issue and no warranty replacement of HPFP. If I leave it in, to show dealer and reproduce it, warranty voided.. i have no option. it hasnt done it when stock as it doesnt push the fuel enough.

I would not assumed it's a boost spike. There are stock cars that get the light (and rough running) because of HPFP codes. (Which doesn't mean it will die on you instantly). Get a simple OBDII reader and post the code here. Also look it up on e90post, there are many codes posted there. Also try to replicate the problem, with the SSTT in place and then removed.

stoked.. the light was gone at lunch time. it was one of those temp limp codes which resets as soon as you restart the car. I'll only worry if it comes back regularly.

If it was HPFP related there will be a code stored that the dealer will read, even after your SSTT is removed. Now the dealer may not be able to duplicate the condition without the SSTT installed, but it's worth a visit. They have a battery of tests used to determine low and high fuel pressure issues.

i'll wait for it to come back once more before i worry. i also read around here that you will not have a code if you dont have a active light. so i am getting conflicting information.

If it's a fuel pressure issue it will store a code.

well, lets start with what you mean by "yellow engine light"? was it a small lite that said "service engine soon" or was it a little picture of an engine half full? Was it accompanied by a limp mode?
if it was a limp it will go away when you restart the car.
