Unhappy Extended Warranties and the Like from BMW

:iono:I am curious does anyone consider the extended maintenance warranty (an additional 2 years or 50,000 to the existing one) worth it? And the same question goes for the Tire and Wheel one too. In theory they sound really good, but some parts of it seem really vague and shady to me. I would love everyone's two cents on this since I have a week to make my decision. Thanks in advance.

If you mod the car don't get it. Even thou modding should not keep you from getting warranty service. Once the modding begins it will never stop. You will get to the point that you'll be replacing all suspension parts, rebuilding the engine to get more power. All that can happen before your factory warranty is up. I never get it on any car I have own.

The MAINTENANCE includes the pads, rotors, oil changes, Service 1 and 2, etc, etc....the Warranty covers parts etc, etc....I got the extended Maintenance service cause I dont like paying an arm and a leg for services...that is worth it to me...what I did NOT do is get the extended Warranty...

Assuming 50,000 miles are driven during the 2 years, U.S. covered maintenance should include:
1 Oil Service @$200.00
1 Inspection @$400.00
1 Brake Fluid Flush @$100.00
1 Complete Brake Job @$1,000.00

Total = about $1,700.00 (+ Spark Plugs @45,000 on the 135i)

So how much is the maintenance contract? And, does it cover the replacement of Auto Transmission fluid at 100,000 miles and plugs on the 128i at 100,000?

I did include labor (in the mid-Atlantic area), although my estimates may be low as they represent work I've had done over the past 3 years on my other, out of warranty BMW.
Yes, covered maintenance is 4 years/50k miles. Since I was responding to the OP who quoted the extention as 2 years/50k miles, I was assuming that the car had been driven 50,000 miles in the 1st four years (and that miles per year were doubling in years 5 and 6).
Again, how much is the extended maintenance contract?

That's a good point. If you're like me, working five days every week for about fifty hours a week, you don't have that much time to just drive around. Commuting can be a b*tch, but luckily for me, work is only ten minutes away.

All in all, I put about 500 miles on my car every month just to work and back. Maybe another 200 miles going out on days off or just running errands. 700 miles/month x 12 months = 8400 miles/yr. x 4 years = 33600 miles by the end of my initial 4 years.

Add 2 years @ 8400 miles per year = 50400.

I guess the extra two years could benefit me as I'm not really planning on doing any modifications. But to each their own.

BTW, talking with my co-workers and friends, I realize I am below the national average for miles per year. On average, people put between 10-12000 miles on per year. In that case, an additional two years probably isn't worth it as you'll be over the 50k miles mark.

IIRC it is around $1600....I don't have my contract here in the desert. I probably would have bought it anyway. Oh yeah you probably have to add a bit of money to the total due to inflation over the next 6 years also....I dunno I just like the fact I can just take it in to the dealer they will see I have extended maintenance and voila work is done....no going to the bank, no haggling about labor hrs, no finding an independent shop to get a deal....LOL...maybe i am just lazy...LOL

Apparantly - the 50,000 mile/80,000 km service is quite expensive. I don't know what it entails, but I was told is was $4k. So - if you won't get to 50k miles within your 4 year standard warranty, you will get stuck with that bill. I can see all kinds of 135i owners taking cross country trips starting in 2012 in order to get their 50k miles in before the 4 years is up. Does anyone know what is involved in the 50k miles service?

Does anyone have the pricing of the BMW extended warranty service and the pricing on the BMW maintenance upgrade. The BMW website indicates yo should contact your local dealers. Does this mean the price is negotiable? If so, could you negotiate with multiple dealers even those that are not local to get the best price, presuming the service can be done at any dealer.

Also, it would be good to know what the service fees will be for recommended service after the 50,000 mile mark to help determine whether to get the extended maintenance agreement.

Don't hesistate to negotiate on "after" warranties of all sorts, the markup on these is HUGE.
