Question Bumper Repair? Please Help.

I have about a three inch ugly scratch with some light gouging on the left hand corner of my rear bumper. I want to have it repaired. Should I schedule a service appointment with my dealer, or do I need a body shop. I want the car to look new again, meaning, I want the repair to match perfectly. Suggestions please? Cost?

Thanks.

Unless your dealer has it's own body shop you should go directly to a body shop - a good body shop.

Your insurance could be used to cover the repair and paint work costs if they exceed your deductible.

Photos would help.

I had this priced at an independent and BMW body shop - about $400 to pull the bumper, re-surface, prime, paint and re-install. (metallic paint)

I have black sapphire metallic paint. Will a body shop be able to match it perfectly? Thanks.

I would find a body shop that gives a lifetime guarantee on the repair and paint matching. Look at cars they have just repaired. I would also do a quick search at the BBB web site to see how many complaints they had.

Check your insurance, my insurance guarantees the work for lifetime as well so if the body shop did not stand behind there work my insurance would have it fixed.

If it's not too far from you, I strongly recommend Burnt Mills Auto Body in Silver Spring. They've done excellent work on my 328i and a Z4 I used to own and their prices are reasonable.

i had the exact same issue. side of my bumper, 4-5" long scratch. I paid $550 to have it fixed and repainted perfectly. DON'T go to a place that wants to repaint the entire bumper. A experienced place will do a localized respray. The oem paint process is far better than anything a shop will redo.
