Track/Race Pads for 135i stock brakes

I've tried the cool willy pads from Turner - not so hot. Or should that be too hot. Pads did not hold up well during moderate to aggressive track day events. Left deposit on my rotors - lots of judder, but getting better as the deposits wear off.

Anyone have a recommendation for another pad that will hold up for track days? My 135i is a daily driver, but I replace pads for track events. Turner sells a hawk race via special order, but I think that might be too agressive for my use. I will have a few days of street driving before and after each track event and I don't want to destroy my rotors. Turner also indicated they could special order any of hawks compounds. I would welcome any comments on good pad alternatives, Hawk or other.

Also, suggestions on what to run on front vs rear would also help. I used cool willy just in front and stock pads in rear. I toasted the rear pads after just two track days. Thanks for your help.

It's a bit of an all or nothing when it comes to street pads vs. a true race pad.

Any pad that works on the street (aka works when cold), won't be able to maintain their mu forces when hot (track driving).

Any pad that works on the track (aka sustained friction when HOT), won't be a safe or rotor friendly pad on the street when cold.

We are running Hawk HT10's front and rear. Completely unsuitable for street use, however are great for track use. After the track, we swap back to the OEM pads.

Just drive up/down to the track nice and easy on the Hawk pads, lots of downshifting, as little braking as possible. Drivers on the street sure don't like being stuck behind the 135i coasting at 20mph, but I don't want to kill my rotors.

IMO, the "performance street" pads (Hawk HP, Porterfield R4S, Cool Willy, etc) are better suited for autocross guys who aren't breaking as much or as long as the track guys are.

i'm not a big fan of the XP8's. they glazed over way too easily (same thing happened with a friend of mine) and they don't have that initial bite that Carbotech promised. I think i'm going to try a Hawk pad for my next track session.

I just took the plunge and ordered a set of Hawk HT-10 pads from Turner. I'd rather be worried about taking it easy on my rotors with the Hawk race pads on the street than be worried about fade on the track. In the scheme of things replacing rotors sooner that normal isn't that big of an expense. And maybe the dealer will do it before the warranty runs out.

Just a note - we have had to grind down the ends of the Hawks we have gotten from Turner to get them to fit inside the backing plates.

Why bother with the backing plate at all? I haven't on mine for the last 2 sets of trck pads.

Sounds like they may be switching donor pads around for those HT-10's. Our pads fit fine, but we couldn't re-install the wear sensors.

Scott - does your rear end squirm during braking?

We'll check the latest batch we got - they are different boxes than the ones before.

You'd have to ask Ralph (look for user Ralph Warren) on how the car feels under braking.

We don't use them with the street pads, but we've always tried to use them in the race set up.
