Okay what is the purpose of Blacklines?

Sorry for asking this because I am a noob, I have searched and it seems like the Euro versions has extra stoplights at the back? Do I have it right?

Thanks!

Blacklines and Euro tail lights are different things. Blacklines have a clear piece on the outside corner where it usually blinks red. Euro tail lights blink amber, but it still looks sorta like our stock tail lights, I think the amber comes through some slits in the taillight. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Blacklines are OEM designed/manufactured tail lights replacements. They do not have enhanced function other than cosmetics and amber blinkers (i.e. standard US spec taillights blink red of which most poster do not agree with).

Euro spec tails are the tailights everyone else in the world gets, basically they have amber blinkers vs our US mandated red blinkers.

A search will net you many pictures of blacklines and various comparisons.

Both the blacklines and the euro blink amber.
Only the stock american taillights blink red.

I actually had a hard time with the stock red lights - didn't flow, IMO. The big red corner piece destroyed the flow of the lines across the back of the car. The clear corner of the blackline taillights, along with the contiguous clear trunk piece, restores the continuity of the lines of the car's rear end.

I also like the amber flasher (although it is secondary to the fact that the lens is clear, and just looks better on my SG car) and the fact that my car is different from every other E90 3er that I see here where I live.

Absolutely. With Blacklines the character lines flow right into where the clear and red pieces meet on the taillights, and not into a sea of red goo, as with the stock lights. The molding on taillights also lines up nicely with the trunk, though that's a lot easier to see in person, as it's on the clear part of the light. Basically like papi said, it nicely cleans up the rear end of the car.

The Blacklines also (to my eye) look more classicly euro than the stock lights. The stock tails look to have the classic BMW L lights about as well as me sticking my thumb out does.

I didn't like the white trim around the reverse lights on the stock lights. It looked like a piece of rubber used to protect something during shipping which they forgot to remove. So in my opinion the blacklights look a lot better on my car.

I have SG too and blacklines are a great combo with this color. I also agree that the lines do flow better at the rear. I also like the idea that mine is more unique in the area I live since I have not seen anyone with them.

US taillights definitely blink red, euro spec and blackline taillights blink amber, i think the white on top makes for a cleaner and better look on dark cars, also the darkened red looks better!

I see the darkening affect of the tail lights but the styling is no different. Usually aftermaket tail lights are different in styling as well. Seems crazy for a slight shade darker. Save yourself some money and try this.

If they have been altered it was by BMW at the factory. They have always been that way since I bought the car.
