clutch squeak

The last two days I noticed that when pressing my clutch in and letting it out, it makes a squeaking noise. It's not very noticeable and you can only hear it with the radio off. The pedal itself isn't loose.

Does anyone know what this could be? Also, is that something that could be serviced by BMW? It's one of those things that will start to bother me more and more as time goes on.

I hate squeaks!!

That happened 7 years ago with my '99 E46. The dealer lubed the linkage and the squeak has not returned.

I would take it in. It could be something minor and not really worth it, but if it is something that could have an affect on your car much longer down the road and cause alot of damage and $$$... Better safe than sorry.

Yeah, take it in and I believe squeaks and rattles are only covered for 1 year/12K miles. At least that's how it was with my '99 M3, but they fixed my squeaky clutch at 16K for free, even though they didn't have to.

Mine does this as well. It sounds like it's the pedal return spring, but I haven't had my head under there to see exactly how it's put together. I'm going to take the car in for its first service in another few weeks, so I'll have them look at it then.

I just took my car to the dealer today, had the service guy sit inside and press the clutch to hear the same thing. It is like a spring action or something. I am sure I could of fix this with wd40, but I choose to let the dealer fix it. Am in the shop on Nov 14 and leaving the car for the day to get it fixed.

Just had mine done on the way home from work at the dealer. Said they lubed the return spring and contact points. Nice and quiet!

It's great to see little headaches like this getting taken care of. little stories like this can really help build confidence in a dealership.

Just happened to me this morning on the way to work. I'm guessing the past two days of rain finally triggered it off. Got an appointment at the dealer for tomorrow morning. 3 weeks old and only 750 miles.

Ok Guys. My dealer 'Autohaus' North of Toronto, Ontario fixed the noise under warranty for me via a schedule appointment visit. Not sure if they replaced the part or simple lubed it. I will find out overtime.

Got my fixed under warranty at Passport BMW in MD. Technician had to take off the panel over the pedals and take out the clutch return spring completely and relubricate thoroughly. He said he was excessively loud.

Occasionally mine makes two or three squeaking noises in 1st gear with the clutch all of the way out. It sounds like a rotational rubbing squeak. Only does it ( or I can only hear it ) going slow in 1st gear. No squeaking from engaging and disengaging the clutch with the pedal.
Any ideas what it could be?

This is my biggest pet peeve about BMW. I have had the dreaded clutch squeak on almost every BMW I have owned. Lube = Fixed

It is just irritating. BMW are you listening? I could work for you in the quality control department?!?!

I can hear the clutch spring too. Freakin' annoying. Might try and lube it myself. Can't be bothered going to dealer.

Guess I've been lucky as it only happened once in over 200,000 miles on 4 BMWs. Maybe it's that mid-western gas you've been using

The clutch return spring is number 15 on the realoem parts diagram. A smattering of white moly at each end should work.
