Gday

Well just thought id say hi. Am thinking of ordering a 135 soon so have been lurking around here for a little while. Work offshore in oil exploration so cant get to a dealer for another month or so. So its been good having places like this to gather some info.

Anyway the one ive configured on the BMW site has most of the options ticked except for Active steering and heated seats. Has any one in Aussie ordered one with Active steering and if so how is it?

I have read some of the overseas threads on the subject just wondering if anyone here has tried it. Im based on the Gold Coast.

Cheers

Haven't used Active Steering myself, but welcome to the aussie 1addicts corner, it's a great little community!

Good luck with the order mate, I'd be trying to put down some money soon!

From all the reports I've read in magazines, most of them have mixed or negative opinions of AS. Just save your money for other options and stick with conventional steering IMO.

Welcome by the way!!

Yeah thats what Im thinking.

I'm really keen to mod this car to but going to be very conservative at first. I had one of the STI V5 2doors a few years ago which I spent over $50,000 on 3 different engines the last one being a 2.5 with a garret GT30 pulling 24psi for 450hp to 500hp. I blew up 2 previous fully built engines first one was spun main bearings the 2nd was a Forged steel rod pushed straight through the block. lol. One thing I learnt with turbo cars is the tune with correct fueling is critical espiecially uping the boost. But jeese I can see some potential with this car just look at the HP numbers from 2.6lt skylines and the stroked 3lt versions.

My '06 530i MSport came with Active Steering and I wasn't too fussed with it. The car felt so light at low speed that sometimes I nearly put it into the mailbox when reversing as I'm used to a bit of steering resistance.

The thing that interests me is the direct injection and how that will help detonation in high boost scenarios i reckon it should really help.

Welcome. I hate the active steering. Would never order that on a high performance car.

Hm, wheres Tagman on this issue, he would gladly voice his oppinion. To me though, it depends on taste, I've driven both with and w/o it. I don't mind it, wouldn't talk crap about it as it has its plusses, but I've driven so many BMW's without it, I'm just used to, and enjoy more, the feeling w/o.

Shauno, welcome! If you can get to Brisbane some time PM me and I can arrange to take you for a run in my Le Mans Blue 135. Probably get a better feel for the car away from the dealer environment.

Cool thanks for the offer. Just might take the offer up. I'm pretty annoyed about this luxury car tax increase It will be an extra $2208 for me based on my optioned up price of $84635 as i wont be able to order it until after the increase goes though. Maybe I'll be able to get a discount although have never bought a car with a waiting list so might pushing my luck there.

Drove an active steering 325i a few months back.....very much preferred normal steering. Active steering feels too artificial.

Realised that I actually was given a 08/530i loaner for 7 days while waiting for the 1er which had active steering.
Havent driven a 1 series with active thou.
But even on the 530 which being a bigger car, it still felt akward and artificial..especially when parking..it was very sharp..hard to get used to.
