The 2nd-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe offers more standard equipment and a broader range of premium options.

Refreshed styling with standard M Sport exterior design and a new tech-forward interior with the BMW Curved Display.

Revised powertrains and standard Adaptive M Suspension improve performance and sharpen handling.

The 228 xDrive Gran Coupe and M235 xDrive Gran Coupe will launch in March 2025, with the two-wheel drive 228 sDrive Gran Coupe arriving mid-year.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 15, 2024… The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe brings sportiness and elegance to the premium compact segment. And now, the second generation emphasizes these qualities even more intensely. The standard M Sport exterior design delivers a clear increase in presence and gives the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe a sportier and more dynamic appearance. Revised powertrains, standard Adaptive M Suspension, and innovative systems for automated driving and parking ensure driving pleasure. The progressive character of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is evident in the area of digitalization, too. The user experience in the redesigned interior is defined by the new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and a wide range of digital services based on BMW Operating System 9.

Production of the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will begin at BMW’s plant in Leipzig in the fourth quarter of 2024. The market launch is set to start in March 2025.

At launch, two models will be available in the US. The 241-hp 228 xDrive Gran Coupe will start at $41,600 plus $1,175 destination and handling, and the high-performance, 312-hp M235 xDrive Gran Coupe will start at $49,500 plus $1,175 destination and handling.

Coming in mid-2025, the two-wheel drive, 241-hp 228 sDrive Gran Coupe will start at just $39,600 plus $1,175 destination and handling.

Sporty elegance in the hallmark style of BMW.

The exterior design of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is defined by an expressive front section, a dynamically elongated silhouette, and a powerfully designed rear. The proportions clearly convey the sporty elegance characteristic of a BMW Gran Coupe.

The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has increased in length by 0.7 inches to 179.2, while the wheelbase remains unchanged at 105.1 inches. The width of the vehicle is constant at 70.9 inches, while the height has been increased by one inch to 56.9. These exterior dimensions ensure the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe offers generous space for up to five occupants and their luggage.

The standard M Sport exterior design features a front apron with large air intakes below the wide BMW kidney grille. The headlights are drawn far back into the front fenders. Two vertically and subtly arrow-shaped LED units function as the side marker lights, daytime running lights, and turn indicators. For a striking night*time design, an illuminated kidney grille with contour lighting will be optionally available starting in March 2025.

The profile is defined by the long hood, short overhangs, long wheelbase, and a gently flowing roofline. A pronounced indentation in the transition to the rear emphasizes the athletically shaped shoulder section. At the rear of the elegantly elongated side window graphic, a discreetly embossed number 2 highlights the characteristic Hofmeister kink.

The rear derives its powerful, modern appearance from an ample surface structure broken up by just a few lines and flat taillights. Vertically aligned LED elements in the rear lights and the turn indicators echo the design of the light sources inside the headlights. The tailpipes of the 228 xDrive Gran Coupe are invisibly integrated in the rear apron, while the M235 xDrive Gran Coupe proudly displays traditional M quad tailpipes.

Roof in contrasting color and M Sport package optionally available.

The range of exterior finishes includes one solid, eight metallic, and two BMW Individual Frozen paint finishes along with a vast range of special BMW Individual finishes. A contrasting high-gloss black finish for the roof is optionally available with certain exterior colors as part of the Premium Package.

The 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe features standard 18-inch style 975M alloy wheels with a Y*spoke design. A variety of 18 and 19-inch wheels and a choice of all-season, summer, and high-performance tires are optional.

Selecting the M Sport Professional Package for the 228 xDrive Gran Coupe enhances the exterior by adding M Shadowline Lights, a rear spoiler, and Extended Shadowline trim.

Driver-oriented cockpit in a progressive premium ambience.

The interior of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is entirely leather-free, with Perforated Veganza in any of four colors standard. Veganza/Alcantara trim is available with the M Sport Package and is combined with contrasting stitching for the dashboard.

Newly designed heated sports seats are standard on the 2 Series Gran Coupe, and for the first time massaging Active Front Seats with lumbar support are optional. The latest version of the standard sports steering wheel features Pearl-gloss Chrome trim and illuminated multifunction buttons.

The dynamically backlit interior trims made from milled aluminum contribute to the 2 Series Gran Coupe’s refined and athletic premium ambience. The BMW Curved Display, featuring the latest version of BMW iDrive with QuickSelect based on BMW Operating System 9, and new gear selector toggle underline the modern, tech-forward character of the interior.

The progressively designed interior of the 228 xDrive Gran Coupe can be further enhanced with the optional M Sport Package, which adds details such as a choice of M Illuminated Aluminum Hexacube Matte trim or Illuminated Aluminum Graphite trim and a leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel with shift paddles for the 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission.

Extensive standard equipment defines impressive value.

The expanded range of standard equipment on the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe now includes BMW Live Cockpit Plus with the cloud-based navigation system BMW Maps. A 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon premium sound system is newly standard, as is Comfort Access keyless entry, wireless device charging, and auto dimming interior and exterior mirrors.

Also standard for the first time in the 2 Series Gran Coupe, BMW Digital Key Plus enables the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe to be unlocked and locked via smartphone or smartwatch using security-optimized ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless technology, making a conventional key fob unnecessary. BMW Digital Key Plus can be set up via the My BMW App for suitable smartphones and smart watches with the iOS or Android operating systems and Apple Watch.

BMW Live Cockpit Professional is available in combination with the BMW Head-Up Display and Parking Assistant Plus in the optional Technology Package, which also includes Augmented View on the Control Display and the Drive Recorder.

New generation of engines for superior driving pleasure and efficiency.

A revised drivetrain portfolio ensures superior driving pleasure and excellent efficiency. The highly efficient engines in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe are from the latest generation of the Efficient Dynamics engine family. Its innovative technology not only reduces fuel consumption but also ensures strong, linear power delivery.

The 2-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine under the hood of the 228 xDrive Gran Coupe has been heavily revised. The new engine, code named B48A20O2, incorporates a Miller combustion cycle, a dual (direct and port) injection system, and a revised combustion chamber geometry. This engine makes 241 hp between 4,500-6,500 rpm, and torque has increased to a substantial 295 lb-ft between 1,500-4,000 rpm. The engine is mated exclusively to a new 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Together, they send the 228 xDrive Gran Coupe from 0-60 mph in just 5.8 seconds.

New 7-speed Steptronic Dual Clutch Transmission.

The latest generation of the 7-speed DCT now features fully electric actuation, a widened gear ratio spread, and greater internal efficiency. This advanced transmission also now tailors shift strategy to the route topography and enables coasting in all drive modes except Sport.

The 7-speed DCT provides remarkably quick and smooth gear changes. It combines two sub-transmissions within a single housing, enabling it to pre-select the next gear prior to each gear change. The transmission automatically shifts into Park when the engine is switched off, and sensors can detect when the vehicle is parked on a slope and automatically engage the parking brake.

In vehicles equipped with the M Sport Package, gearshift paddles behind the steering wheel allow quick manual gear changes. The shift paddles also enable a Sport Boost function. When the driver pulls the left-hand shift paddle for at least a second, all the powertrain and chassis settings are primed to maximize their sporting responses for the most immediate acceleration possible.

Suspension technology and driving experience. Optimized balance between dynamics and ride comfort.

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe benefits from extensively revised suspension technology, lending a greater intensity to the driving pleasure. Agility, steering precision, and cornering dynamics are enhanced by the increased rigidity of the body structure and chassis connection as well as especially solid axle support bearings in the front section. Numerous other innovations including a 20% increase in the caster offset of the front wheels help optimize both ride comfort and sporty handling.

In addition, new shock absorber technology improves ride comfort by reducing roll during dynamic cornering, for example. With model-specific chassis components, carefully calibrated control systems, the latest generation of lateral dynamics management, near-actuator wheel slip limitation, and the integrated braking system, the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe offers precise and balanced handling.

Front and rear axle with newly developed components.

Both the single-joint suspension strut-type front axle at the front and the modular three-link rear axle have been extensively revised and fitted with new components to optimize rigidity and weight. Highly preloaded anti-roll bar mounts contribute to improved body support in bends and increased roll management, while robust wheel bearings increase the steering precision of the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. In addition, the optimized kinematics of the front axle promote agile steering behavior. The model-specific rear axle is especially rigid. Combined with a rigidly connected rear axle support, this enables precise wheel guidance with high lateral acceleration.

Ride comfort in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has also been enhanced. The stroke-dependent additional damping on the front axle makes use of an additional sleeve on the shock absorber to stabilize the body in bumps, enabling a superior driving experience at all times. Standard equipment also includes Adaptive M Suspension and electromechanical rack-and-pinion steering with Servotronic. Conventional suspension is available at no cost.

Directly controlled wheel slip limitation and integrated braking system.

The near actuator wheel slip limitation in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe ensures optimal traction on slippery roads, superior directional stability in dynamic maneuvers, and a high level of stability in curves. The system integrates traction control directly in the engine control system, making interventions up to ten times faster than in conventional systems and enabling more precise application.

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe also features an integrated braking system that combines brake actuation, brake boosting, and brake control of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system in a single compact module. The required braking pressure is applied quickly and precisely by means of an electric actuator. The optional M Sport brake system (standard on M235 xDrive Gran Coupe) includes larger discs, with four-piston fixed caliper brakes on the front axle and single*piston floating caliper brakes on the rear axle. The brake calipers are available with either a blue or a red finish.

The BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe. Design and performance in hallmark M style.

With its M specific character, the 2025 BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe stands apart from the crowd more than ever before. In particular, the M design grille with horizontal bars, the black M exterior mirror caps, and the striking quad tailpipes of the exhaust system signal inspiring performance characteristics. The promise of performance is realized by means of the most powerful version of the new 4-cylinder engine and the unique tuning of the suspension technology and the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system.

The new M235 xDrive Gran Coupe has an engine with superlative revving power that impresses with its spontaneous response and continuous power delivery. It features numerous innovations including the combustion process, the design of the intake pipes and combustion chambers, the camshaft control, the injection, the ignition system, and the exhaust gas routing.

Its M specific features include a more robust crankshaft, an optimized oil supply for the cooling channel pistons, and new main bearing shells and covers.

The current M TwinPower Turbo technology includes a power increase for the turbocharging system and charge air cooling as well as dual injection. The 2.0-liter engine achieves its maximum output of 312 hp between 5,750 and 6,500 rpm, with maximum torque of 295 lb-ft available between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. This power and the traction provided by xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system enable a charge from 0-60 mph in only 4.7 seconds.

7-speed Steptronic Dual Clutch Transmission and M Sport Boost.

In the new BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe, a 7-speed Steptronic Dual Clutch Transmission with standard shift paddles on the steering wheel ensures that the engine power is transferred to the road with supreme ease. It offers remarkably dynamic shifts and activates M Sport Boost for maximum sporty response when the left-hand shift paddle is pulled for more than one second.

The optimized all-wheel drive system BMW xDrive ensures variable distribution of drive torque between the front and rear axles. In combination with the mechanical differential lock for the front wheels, it also ensures excellent traction and cornering dynamics.

Extensive range of performance-oriented equipment, standard and optional.

Standard equipment on the new BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe includes the Adaptive M suspension and sports steering. With variable, mechanically controlled and frequency*selective shock absorbers, it promotes both agility and long-distance comfort. Other model-specific performance enhancements include chassis components with optimized rigidity and a mechanical differential lock on the front axle integrated into the 7-speed Steptronic transmission.

Powerful M Compound brakes, comprising four-piston, fixed-caliper brakes with 15.2-inch drilled discs at the front wheels and single-piston, floating-caliper units with 13.0-inch discs at the rear, are optional as part of the M Sport Professional Package or the M Performance Package. Originally developed for the high-performance models from BMW M, the M Compound brakes offer comfortable braking, superb feel, and stable stopping power even under high loads. In addition, weight has been minimized and unsprung masses are substantially lower compared with conventional braking systems. The brake calipers are painted grey and bear the M logo.

Sports seats in the Veganza/Alcantara design in anthracite with blue contrast stitching and an M leather steering wheel with shift paddles lend emphasis to the sporty interior of the new BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe. Even more supportive M Sport seats with fixed headrests and an illuminated M logo in the backrest are available as a standalone option or as part of the M Sport Professional Package or M Performance Package. In addition, M-specific graphics shown on the BMW Curved Display and optionally also on the BMW Head-Up Display contribute to an intense performance experience.

Driver assistance systems. Modern systems for automated driving and parking.

The 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe offers a significantly expanded range of functions for partially automated driving and parking. The standard Active Driving Assistant includes features such as Frontal Collision Mitigation, Lane Keeping Assistant, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Speed Limit Info. For just $500, customers can specify the optional Driving Assistance Plus Package, which adds Distance Control and Steering Assistant, which applies corrective steering to help the driver stay centered in the lane at highway speeds.

For even greater comfort on long journeys or in dense traffic, the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package further adds Side Collision Protection, front and rear Cross Traffic Warning, Lane Change Assistant, and Traffic Jam Assistant, which allows attentive hands-free driving on select highways up to 40 mph.

Parking Assistant as standard, Parking Assistant Plus optional.

The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe comes as standard with Parking Assistant, including Active Park Distance Control with Side Protection, Rear View Camera with rear Panorama View, and Back-Up Assistant. The optional Parking Assistant Plus, part of the Technology Package, also includes the Drive Recorder and Parking View. Drivers can also use Remote 3D View to have a live three-dimensional image of the vehicle and its surroundings transmitted to their smartphone.

Intuitive operation and innovative digital services with BMW Operating System 9 and BMW Digital Premium.

The standard BMW Curved Display in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe also ensures a modern cockpit design with clear driver orientation. Comprising a 10.25-inch Information Display and a Control Display with a screen diagonal of 10.7 inches, it serves as a platform for the latest version of BMW iDrive with QuickSelect.

Based on BMW Operating System 9, the display and operating system provide optimized options for intuitive and convenient control of various functions and digital services. In addition to the touch function on the Control Display and voice control with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, it includes multifunction buttons on the steering wheel and, optionally, the BMW Head-Up Display, which together with Augmented View forms part of BMW Live Cockpit Professional.

The navigation map is always shown on the start screen on the Control Display. On the same level, vertically arranged widgets are shown on the driver's side of the display which can be changed by means of swiping. QuickSelect enables the desired function to be accessed directly without having to access a submenu. Additional information and settings are available by swiping horizontally on the respective widget.

BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades and BMW Digital Premium.

BMW Operating System 9 provides the foundation for a selection of digital services with a wide range of customization options. Remote software upgrades can be used to integrate quality enhancements and additional functions "over the air". And there are many functions customers can try out free of charge, subscribe to short or long term, or purchase outright in the BMW Connected Drive Store via the My BMW App.

An additional highlight is BMW Digital Premium: this includes data usage for all digital services and the apps available from the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. This enables customers to subscribe to entertainment services in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, including music and video streaming, news, and gaming. Along with music apps such as Spotify and Amazon Music, the entertainment program includes a video app (powered by Xperi TiVo) with both live channels and on-demand media libraries such as the newly integrated Paramount+.

In the area of in-car gaming, the AirConsole platform also offers a constantly growing selection of casual games such as "Uno® Car Party''. "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” and "Starlit Kart" - an ideal pastime for drivers and passengers in the stationary vehicle, whether on their own or in multiplayer mode: all you need is your smartphone, which acts as a controller, and the BMW Curved Display.

BMW Digital Premium also enables customers to add a more extensive range of functions in BMW Maps such as Satellite View and 3D building display, additional My Modes, and new variants for the Welcome and Goodbye Animation of the exterior and interior lighting.

Personalized user experience with BMW ID and My BMW App.

Smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available as standard in the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe. In order to personalize the user experience via the BMW ID and the My BMW app, one need only to log in to the vehicle for the first time via smartphone and QR code scan. The personal profile is then added, and all settings are loaded that are capable of synchronization. In addition, the vehicle is automatically added to the My BMW app.

The longer the BMW AG press release/marketing text the less desirable the car!

Side note: BMW, please stop sharing parts between entry and luxury models and packaging between utilitarian models and real M models and start building a sub brand like Scion etc. to not dilute the BMW image as an ultimate driving machine.

Definitely still a no for me. Absolutely hate the two series grand coupe design. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, There’s just too much homogeny in how cars are designed, I assume for efficiency purposes from a manufacturing and parts perspective. But I think that just kind of ruins the enjoyable nature of more luxury, higher-end, pricier cars. Like you’re still paying that hefty price tag and you do get a considerable amount of Performence, but it’s now all packaged up in a Kia/Hyundai (generally cheap) looking package.

Now I skimmed the above in 10 secs, for the record…but screams to me as further dilution of the dedicated M brand…most telling from the rear end with the quad tips / big M2(small35)…soon enough, maybe we’ll make an M2 SUV as well and a 4 door 1 series! Really loved this brand…but with every new model release, that love is fading. Now, the real question - will my love affair with the E46 / E9X / F87 be impacted by the direction the brand is heading…a few years ago, I thought it didn’t matter…but that’s changing…

Just have to remember the person who approved this design is no longer with BMW.

I wonder when the new designer's input will start showing up. I think next up is X5 and iX5 or whatever it'll be called? Maybe there's still time to fix it if it was looking ugly.

They gave it a baby cs spoiler, diffuser of true M cars with dual exhaust (better than my previous m550i) and tail lights similar to the the front lighting/DRLs of new 2025s X5 and G80 etc..oooh and let’s give it seats similar to the G90. The hell is happening.

To little space between this and the look of true M cars. Kind of annoying :/

Everyone is hating for no reason. This car is perfect for what it is, I would take this over a 330i any day.

Hold up… are they really making the 35 smaller than the ///M2 of the badge to try and make it look like it’s an m2? This be the easiest to debadge to an m2 in history 😂

This vehicle is so bad. 💄 on a 🐷

Still super ugly. Shouldn’t be called a 2-series. They should have kept these dumpy FWD models as 1-series and the RWD coupe the 2-series.

You gotta really love BMW and the sportier driving experience to choose this over an A3/S3. That car looks far better, but probably doesn’t drive as sporty as the BMW.
