My SGM 135i

Picked my SGM 135i up 9am yesterday. My initial comments (after 600kms) are.

- Wow. Blows my Z4 2.5 away in performance.
- Handling is fantastic and the power just keeps coming
- It's a head turner! Everyone had their eyes on it driving along George Street Sydney at 8:30 this morning
- The seats are so unbelievably comfortable
- IDrive and Pro Navigation is much better than I expected and hoped for after reading so many posts.

The not so good bits (but definitely not deal breakers)

- Dead pixel on my IDrive screen - Disappointing
- Having to fork out an extra $120 for a BMW IPOD cable adaptor to get my (Mac formatted) IPOD working in the car
- The dealer telling me there are no mats for the 1 series available yet

I love the car. I just want to keep driving it! It's fantastic. Have got a big trip planned for the weekend and will post more pics as soon as I can.

Awesome picture

I take it the dealer is going to fix the i-drive screen?

Can they do a quick fix, don't tell that you will have your new car on the dealer for a couple of days?????

Not sure. Given my experience to date with the dealer, I suspect not.
Should be an interesting conversation...

I'm not convinced it will be, but I will be fighting to get it replaced

I know lcd screens normally come with a dead pixel policy (ie - only replaced if there are at least x dead pixels).

Great pic blackie. I'm really falling for the standard 261M wheels. Was going to go for the performance ones, but I'm not going to bother now.

Congratulations.

Blackie, FYI for the USB Audio cable, you just use a standard IPOD white cable and also a standard 3.5mm stereo cable, both items under $5 each.

Great Car Mate....

Congrats!!

but sadly, I have to say that your dealer is a lier.... 1 series mats have been out since '04.

the mats are the same as the 120i or 116 or 118i.

I currenty drive a 120i which has BMW mats, and also took a 135i for a test drive yesterday, it had mats.

Get him to give you one and Fuck you around with it...

Enjoy you car.

I would have to agree with the "dead pixel" formula. Even your laptop can have x number of dead pixels before claimable under warranty.

How the hell do you do 600k's in 2 days? Don't you have a job? Or is this the worlds coolest cab!

Agree with the iDrive comments. Not worth the money, but certainly not the problem people make it out to be.

Please explain. Do you mean iPod dock connector in base and 3.5-3.5 connector cable?

I don't know, but I would have thought that connecting both at the same time would result in the ipod cracking the shits because it couldn't decide which to route audio to. Or does the 3.5 jack over-ride? Or does it output to both simultaneously? Where have you successfully employed this strategy?

Dodgy, audio comes out of the 3.5mm, whilst data comes out of the USB/Ipod style connector. The BMW cable is both cables joined together, its nothing fancy....

All the US guys are using what ive mentioned.. it will work.

I always thought that the BMW cable was exactly that - A dock to USB cable and a AUX-AUX cable fastened together, but it is NOT.

When I picked up my car, I had my Ipod and a standard dock-usb cable and an AUX-AUX cable. Plugging in my 80GB 5th generation iPod, or my iPhone I got the same results - neither were recognised by iDrive. Important to note that both of my iPods are synced with a mac, not a PC.

After doing some further research, I forked out the $120 yesterday to buy the magic BMW cable and I'm happy to say that both the iPhone (music functions) and the iPod work like a dream.

The magic BMW cable is actually a dock connector which splits into two separate cables (one USB and one AUX plug). There is a little black box in the middle of the cable which obviously does some type of signal tranlslation. Whatever it does, it works - having full iDrive based access to the contents of your iPod / iPhone is just great!
