Question Can you install BMW Assist ?

Just picked up the 1er and I am regretting not getting BMW assist because I want to use the BT phone feature thru the navi.

Is it possible to have it installed?

Is there any extra button or controls in the car for the BMW Assist or is it all controlled thru the navi?

Does anyone have pics?

There's a button under a cover, up in the overheard console, that initiates the Assist call. I believe Assist is not retrofittable, just as BT is not retrofittable.

Actually, I asked that question when I picked up my car yesterday. It can be retrofitted. But it would be expensive because it requires replacing the TCU.

Sorry no. I didn't ask about anything that specific.

if your car is equipped with telephone prewiring, you need a tcu and an fzd (the entire roof module that has both the sos button and the sunroof button), you also need a programming update.

please take this for what it's worth, which is just a guess.

But if it's the bluetooth specifically that you want, and not the actual assist part of it, I think that would be easier to retrofit than the entire assist system. I am somewhat sure that you can order the bluetooth as a standalone option so it may be not that crazy to retrofit just the bluetooth.

you can do a bluetooth only retrofit which would add a ULF control module, in addition to some hardware and a bluetooth antenna. you would still need a programming update.

griptruk: wear are you getting your vehicle? i work at habberstad bmw...i know that we've done a couple of ED's here for the 1.

Can you please elborate? Do you know any part numbers and the associated costs? Is there tech bulletin on how to do this?

I just want to be able to use BT thru my navi and not void the warranty.

Thanks

I saw the post on e90post.com forum from the guy, who actually did retrofit his e90. He spent $1600. I do not think it is worth it.

I'd like to know if you could retrofit a switch to disable it... so the powers that be can't locate your cars whereabouts if you didn't want them to...
