No alarm so what does the blinking mean?

As with other fellow 1'ers, my alarm hasnt come in yet to the dealership so until that happens i have the clown-nose-blinks-when-locked enabled. today i came back to my car and, when unlocking, the clown-nose blinked quickly & continuously which, according to the manual, for ALARM EQUIPED CARS, this is an indication that my car was "disturbed" while i was away.

so my question to you way more knowledgable people is in the subject line: if i don't have an alarm, what's the quick blinking of the clown-nose mean?! :iono: (BTW it did stop blinking once i had the key in + started the car so in this aspect, i pray it is not some electrical fault *knock on wood*)

Thanks in advance.

I heard it was supposed to blink even if it wasn't an alarm, so just like a "fake" alarm light, cause those stil deter people

Mine blinks in my 325 Coupe since day one. I am hoping this is the case when I take delivery of my 135i. Can it be customer enabled to blink or does the dealer have to activate that?

From what everyone has been able to gather its something the dealer has to enable and it only can be done IF the alarm is installed.

Hmmm this wasn't the case with my 325Ci. Never had an alarm. Never wanted one.. still dont on the 135i, but the blinking is a good thing. I'll talk my dealer into it. The first time I'm in for service I'll tell them to activate it. I've been going to them for years.

Thanks for the link Tom K. Guess it cannot be turned on without an alarm. Does anyone know how much the alarm is at the dealership.
Just curious because it should also lower your car insurance with an alarm installed.

I just checked my dealerships website on what they charge for the alarm.
$337 installed.

The "clown nose" is just a feature that can be enabled at a dealership. You do not need the alarm. It's just a feature that warns off predators like an alarm, just without the alarm.

Has your dealership enabled the clown nose on any 1 series without alarm?

I hooked my car up to the SSS machine last night, and there is no option to enable the LED under retrofits.

Could be different with a 1. Every other model can be programmed to have this turned on without the alarm.

Every other model has an alarm standard, except 3s and Z4s.

I really wish we could get a solid answer on this. I would like to have my dealership turn this on when I go for service Saturday but I don't want to look like a idiot when they say they cant and i insist they can.

Any word on when the factory alarm software will be sorted out?

I bought a BMW alarm for my car and was told it can't be installed yet until BMW AG updates the software for the 1 series.
