Favorite drives
Hey guys,
Do you have a favorite drive, a route which just 'does it' for you? At his time, mine would be HWY 238 in southern Oregon, between Jacksonville and Murphy, a wooded, elevation-changing, meandering stretch of rural beauty winds for 30 wonderful miles, a magnificent pastoral roam...I drive it frequently, plus, should you be so inclined, the road veers off to the Applegate, which, offers even more twisted wonderfulness.

Yea, I like the trip to Bend also. Although I must say that the amount of gravel ODOT puts on the roads out here is nuts.

The way to Detroit on 22 is nice, it is my backyard as I live about 1 mile off of 22 about 15 miles out of Salem. Once I finally get my car in July I am really going to enjoy just taking it out for a quick spin through the forest and along the river.
One other that I look forward to driving is Hwy 34 from Philomath to Waldport. There is a section 10 miles or so west of Philomath that is absolutely incredible.

I have two favorites here in Oregon.
First is the drive from Portland to Vernonia to Astoria. The roads through Vernonia are amazing. My other favorite is the Old Scenic McKenzie Pass:thumbup: Plus, if we ever get a drive together for the Portland area 1er owners I will plan a drive out the Gorge and show you all the "secret" roadThis road is believed to be the very first paved road in the State of Washington. It is windier then that road in San Francisco and is about 4 miles long:w00t:

I remember when I picked up my brand new S2000. I picked it up in Salem and drove back to Portland. It was 80 degrees that day so it was perfect for top down. Eventhough the drive on I-5 from Salem to Portland sucks, it was still one of the most memorable drives I have had:thumbup: Can't wait until I get to drive my 1er from Beaverton where I pick it up to Bend where I live:roundel:

Played on Dead Indian this evening, the really fun stuff can't be photographed as there are no turn-off areas near the steeply chambered, under-steering twisties. Some pics of the more 'pedestrian' areas...

Funny, I actually did the opposite... bought it in Bend and drove home to Beaverton.

Leavenworth, beyond Stevens pass highway 2 is superb, The drive to ocean shores is good also and so rewarding once you get to the beach. Driving up mount Rainer is pretty sweet also. my 2 cents

Who did you work with at Carrera? I originally had my order with Carrera but they screwed me over on my allocation. They told me I had an allocation for a May build but actually they were waiting to get another allocation to give me. I lost 6 weeks waiting for a car that I never had I will be using Carrera for Service of course though. Will you be using Kuni?

Drive from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh (or vice versa).
But avoid the Pennsylvania Turnpike as much as possible. Lots of hills, lots of twists and turns. Instead of going through the tunnels, you go over and around the mountains they drilled through. It adds at least 2 hours to the trip (if you do it all the way), but there's more to the journey than just getting there fast. I came up with this route because I was doing this drive pretty often, and was getting sick of ponying up cash to the Turnpike Commission. Here's one alternate route: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=e...,0.593262&z=11 I could go back and forth on the merits of U.S. 30 around Harrisburg, York, and Lancs....but PA 31 between Bedford and New Stanton is almost always a joy. Just watch out for the Amish! EDIT: Sorry, didn't see that this was the Northwest forum. What I get for surfing at work. |

Bald Peak FTW... thought I boiled my brake fluid carving through there the first week I had the car, turns out it was some of that wax that BMW uses to seal the car in transport heating up and smelling. Freaked me out though with around 500 miles on the car.

Yes, you do.:wink:Your car excels on 30mph-marked twisties. You'll have a blast. I've been on vacation all week, playing on Dead Indian every other day, maybe more. As it turns out, life is worth living in a BMW 135i.
