Anybody have any suggestions???

I'm flying into Newark on Thursday and get in about noon. It's a layover on my way to Dublin (going to Ireland for vacation!!). My flight out doesn't leave until about 6:30 so I have a 6 hour layover in Newark!!

Anybody have any suggestions on something to do or someplace to go during that time? I would love to take my wife to Carnegie Deli in Manhattan but I don't know if there is any decent way to get there.

Anybody have any suggestions? Is there anything right around the airport that's worth doing or seeing? Any lunch recommendations?

Thanks in advance!!! Gotta love 1ADDICTS!!

You can take the train from the Penn station into the city. I think it only takes 20min from Newark to NYC. From there you can go to the deli and enjoy the wonderful people of NY :-P That in itself is an adventure and should entertain you and the misses

if you feel like pizza, go to grimaldi's in brooklyn, they open at 11 am, but the wait is pretty long. So be prepared to stay out in line for at least 20 mins. It's right at fulton landing, underneath the manhattan bridge.

As everyone said, you can take the airtrain to Penn Station Newark, and either take an NJTransit Train or PATH train into NYC, though 6 hours is not enough time to properly enjoy NYC. 6 hours is just enough time to get a meal and maybe just walk around Time Square / maybe see Ground Zero, then take the PATH train back.

You aren't kidding! I checked the intinerary for this trip and there's at least one pub scheduled every day (sometimes two) along with stops at Guiness and Jameson's!! They'll have to pour me into a bucket to get me back on the plane for the return trip.

You can take NJ Transit to New York Penn Station (Be careful, 2 Penn Stations, 1 in Newark, 1 in NYC. You want the NYC one!)

Six hours is not as much time as you may think.

First, you are going to have to coordinate trains. I don't know how often trains run from Newark International Airport into the city. This is not just a problem getting to the city, but also coming back.

Second, you should give yourself a buffer coming back so as to avoid being late for your flight. Haven't taken an international flight in awhile, but Newark can be a zoo and you might have some complications getting back.

That being said, you could make a sojourn into the city and get in some sightseeing or whatnot. Ground Zero is a good idea (if you go there, take the PATH train from NEWARK Penn Station). Certainly could grab lunch in the city at the Carnegie Deli.

I'd be leery of making the trek to Brooklyn just out of time constraints.

I'm cautious when it comes to travelling, as you can see from my travel comments. Check the train schedule on NJTransit.com beforehand to get an idea of when the trains run so you can plan accordingly. Not all trains go to the airport!

Great suggestions, thanks!! I will definitely leave myself time for any unforseen issues. Missing the flight to Dublin would definitely be a bad start to the vacation!
