how sticky?

how much stickier are Falken RT-615s over the stock RFTs? Is there another tire that can compete with the 615s grip for a similar price? TIA

alot sticker than stock but those are a track tire. you really wouldn't want to run those on the street all the time. although it would be fun.

my mindset is that at the affordable cost of them I could just replace them when they wear out...which I realize wouldn't take too long.

sounds cool you have me thinking about this but there just doesn't seem to be a good size for the 1er. what size were you thinking of?

225/40 and 245/40

I figure with the extra grip, I won't need to go wider. Like you said, it's certainly not the most practical setup for a DD...but it sure would be fun!

I didnt check sizes but for the price Kumho Mx do pretty well had them before. They should be very good for street use.

The new Dunlop Direzza Sport Z-1 Star Spec appears to be the low-price leader in extreme performance tires. True, somewhat more expensive than the Falken rt-615, but also more grip from reports.

I actually ran the rt-615 on my dd E36 M3 back a a couple of summers ago. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad at all on the street (doesn't rain much here though).

I run RT-615's on my car and they are the best tire for the price I have been able to find. granted they don't last as long as some more expensive tires and the wet grip is nothing to write home about but if you require max grip but don't want to spend almost twice as much on a top line tire they are great.

They work ok at the track too. They will get a little greasy after 20 minutes or so but it just takes a couple laps to get used to it and change your style to account for a little more slip.

more traction than the Kumho's I have heard

if you account for rebates on the rack, the dunlops would come in at $656 and bridgestone RE-01Rs come in at $750. I guess with less than a $100 difference I would prob spring for the bridgestone REs. Falkens don't have a rebate anywhere that I know of.

cheak vulcantire.com thats where I get mine but I don't know if the sizes match up

on most cars you can go up 20mm in tread and drop down 5 in height for a larger tire about the same size

it seems that they don't make them in the right size for the 135. at least from what I saw, I may be wrong
Michelin
Pilot Sport PS2

and
Goodyear
Eagle F1 GS-D3

seem to be the highest rates of the tires on tire rack in the proper size for the rears. the goodyears are a lot cheaper though. you may be able to jump up to a 255/35/18 but there is no telling how cranky the computer will be about non stock tire sizes with the dsc

Falkens are great. I have run them in the past (street, auto x, track).

My current favorite are the RE-01R's. I drive them on the street too. They are more advanced than the Falkens because they don't get as greasy when they heat up. They are a far superior track tire IMHO. They also do well in the rain with full tread. Like I mentioned they are my daily driver tires also and I recommend them highly.

Grassroots has hinted that the Dunlops are just as fast as the RE-01R's so that could be a good choice too...I have yet to use them though (?).

yeah, we get random rain and stuff. We even got a light snow the past 2 winters but I think I'm gonna end up keeping my quattro audi so I'm not too worried about that. I'm still completely undecided on what I'll do and it prob won't be til late may/early june but 1 thing is for sure...the run flats will be replaced!

The Z1's are an amazing tire. The grip on the track is simply awesome.

255x35-18 for the rear! We need all the grip possible.

I just snagged a set of 'previously owned' BBS RG-R in Diamond Black, 17x8 for the front and 17x9 rears. These mounted with 235x40 and 255x40 will be my summer/auto-x setup.

I wonder how picky the 1 is when it comes to non stock tire sizes and the abs computer. 265/30/18 would rock

The TPMS will probably need to be reset.
