Anyone know how this compares to the M Steering wheel in the 135i .. is it the same thickness?
thanks, Crowley

That's my question too. Does it require special wiring or is it just P&P. I am just nervous about this because why would the existing wires give information about G-force and oil/water temp?

There has to be additional wiring required, or it is already there and we all have it ready to go. Either way it will still require a special steering wheel pully most likely and god knows what else. I love the M wheel so much, I would hate to spend the money and just not like the feel as much. If you wanted all the info for $500 you could get one of these and have GPS track mapping, G-Forces, times, etc for less. I am still debating between them but leaning towards the vbox one.

If anybody is going to get the performance wheel and wants to sell their M wheel, I might be interested in it. Send me a message if interested. Thanks.

Taking off late model BMW Steering wheels is not that difficult.. just disconnect the battery, use a thin screwdriver thru the two holes on the back of the spokes to pop off the airbag (unplug that, along with the steeringwheel control plugs), then use a socket and unbolt the wheel. Takes about 10 minutes, tops.
I also assume there's more wires to run down the steering column with this wheel, unless there's wireless diagnostics built in, or they wired it to begin with (both of which are highly doubtful). |

It comes with a new wiring harness. I'm sure it pulls all the info from the car's internal computer. The instructions look pretty straightforward but I'm not sure what a DIY install will do to your warranty. I'll see how much trouble I'll get in for posting the instructions and decide if I can do that or not.

Thats pretty cool. Little bit more than most would need for street or occasional track duty

WAY, g-force is the easiest bit of information. i am getting an after-market nav for my wife's r32 and it supposedly displays g-force too. so i am guessing the steering wheel itself contains some kind of gyro for that information.
truth be told its the airbag that prevents me from thinking about anyone else but the dealer doing this install. its one thing at least i would want a bulletproof manufacturer's warranty on. |

Definitely not a "plug 'n' play" type of install! haha
