Foglight Idea - too ricey?!

Been thinking about the 135 not having fog lights and its kind of a shame. Anyway the VW crowd are snapping up the new Audi S6 LED strip fogs and fitting them to the new R32's and I think it looks pretty good if fitted tastefully. Anyway Im throwing this one out there to see what you guys think as it looks like the fog area is similar inshap and layout with the horizontal slats. Im thinking a set installed under the top slat would be almost invisible during the day but look great at night.

New S6 with the strip LED fogs:

MkV R32 fitted with OEM strips:

MkV R32 fitted with OEM strips:

The kit from OEMpl.us:

Product Link: http://oempl.us/index.php?main_page=...roducts_id=451

And finally trying to get an idea of what it would look like on the 1...

Thoughts...?

I dont think it looks terrible. However, it needs to look clean. If they are just slapped in there it will look like Sh*t up close

If they fit as tight as you have them in your photo example I would entertain the idea.

Maybe if you had eyelids or overlays on the headlights to make them smaller. To me is looks wierd with the two big round headlights and serveral tiny lights underneath. But its definitely something to consider and might look good if played with.

What would be great would be mini halo lights. Keep the distinct bmw halo design with audis wierd mini light design. Maybe cut it down to 3 or 4 lights and make them a tad bigger. Im not a fan of copying another companies design. It allows people to call you poser and wannabe.

Take that photochop with the blinking lights. Try tossing in 4. Make them a little bigger so they still span across the top. Cut out the center so they are mini halos.

Good feedback thanks all. I am thinking we could just take a feed from the orange side markers although would have to investigate. Regarding the switch, the euro unit may work: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6447

Here's a good write up I just read on the R32 fitment if interested:

On past sports cars, I frequently have added lights -- driving lights.

At night, away from the city, on twisty, 2-lane roads with no oncoming traffic, I want all the photon torpedos I can fire -- to better spot obstacles, turns, surface changes, etc.

I have used driving lights constantly over the years, but I've wished I had fog lights exactly twice.

You guys who are so desperate for them that you're ready to disassemble your 1 Series to install them: Do you live by the Bay of Fundy, or something? Or do you just "need" them for cruising?

Not bad.. not sure how it would look on a real car.. since oem fogs are only availiable on the 128i.

Hmm wow.. nice photochop. Really doesn't take much to make that front end look more aggressive hey? (headlights)

If the strips were less obvious when not illuminated, it might look cool.

Just remember that, although they are slim, they will still block some of the air flow to the secondary oil cooler. That's why fog lights aren't on there in the first place.
And to answer the original question....IMHO, yes, too "ricey"

I think it is a bit Ricy.. because the LED strip is kind of VAG's signature. It is kind of like a Civic with LED ring on the head light...

Not too ricey, but too Audi. I'm glad the car doesn't have fog lamps. I'd never use them anyway. If a fog is so thick I need them, best to park the car (far from the road).

I like the idea. I saw an A5 when I was test driving the 135 and those lights were on... very eye catching, yet classy. It might be blasphemous to use Audi parts on a BMW, but if done right it could look excellent.

If someone could photoshop another couple pictures, I think we could get a better idea.
Picture 1: LED fogs with angel eyes illuminated
Picture 2: LED fogs with angel eyes and xenons illuminated

I think it might actually come down to how well the color of the LEDs and the stock lights match... the 7500 and 8500 angel eyes would be preferred for the altered photos.

I do like the look but... BMW has angle eyes, audi has LED fogs... it kind of looks wrong putting LED fogs on a BMW, just as AE look kind of wrong on non BMWs
