Sorry to be off-topic... but I seem to remember someone here was from Albany. I know parts of the area are unpleasant; looking for advice on areas where a hotel night would be safe.

I was there recently for the Bruce Springsteen concert. Stayed at a Hilton no issues.

I used to live there. Lots of safe spots. Are you looking to stay downtown or somewhere else?

Downtown, the Renaissance, Hyatt and Hilton are all fine.

Outside of downtown, there are a fair number of hotels/motels on Wolf Road (in the town of Colonie about 5 miles or so east of downtown) with the Marriott and the Desmond probably being the best of the bunch historically.

If you like fried fish, don't forget to try Ted's Fish Fry. Every time I head up to Saratoga Springs or Lake George I have to have it on the way. There are several Ted's Fish Fry locations in the Albany area.
