Escort 9500i GPS function

I now have a RD installed to the left and above the mirror like in the DIY post,

Actually, I have it slightly lower, where it is almost touching the mirror. I like this location as it seems to be going under the tint band and is out of the way. I'm considering a 9500i and I am wondering, will the 9500i's GPS receive signals in this location? Has anyone tried using a 9500i in this location with any luck?

Well, I don't have one (yet) but since you haven't gotten any replies to your question, I will give you some second-hand info. I have read that the GPS functions fine, though it may take a few minutes longer to get a satellite lock. It is where I currently run my RD and where I plan to hang the 9500i.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I talked to a tech at Escort and he said it should work there, but I was not sure that he could be relied on. A search here for "9500i" revealed a few current owners but none have surfaced yet regarding this. They're probably all out driving around. I'm off to radardetctor.net.

I've got a 9500 and I'm going to try it up there, but I can't give you solid answer until my damn car gets here in late May

That is exactly where mine is mounted, but on the passenger side hot wired into the sunroof. It works great with GPS and radar still. I love the digital speedo right there, as I look in the mirror I always notice it too.

Here is a couple of bad lighted install install pics that show the bracket and it next to the mirror, I will take a better pic how it looks now later. (also that is a smudge on the mirror, not a scratch. Plus that Pamperchef spat worked awesome....hope the wife never sees that pic...hahaha!!!)
