GIAC tuning
Got this from GIAC today. Sounds very promising! GIAC's reputation in the VAG community is second to none, so I am more than happy to buy their product when it does come.
Hi Wayne, We are very active in the BMW community as we do supercharger systems for the older naturally aspirated systems. As a result, our software currently powers the fastest supercharged E46 M3 in the world (11.51@122mph with highest trap of 124). We also have software for the previous supercharged and N/A Mini's, as well as, the new R56 Mini Turbo. More important to you than this information is that we are currently working on the 135 and 335 DME and will release software in the future. I am not sure at time when this will be as we are in the DME engineering stage but we will release software. I am sorry we do not have anything for you at this time, but thank you for your interest and your inquiry. Best Regards, -- Austin Wyly Associate Sales and Marketing www.GIACUSA.com |

The only announcement about something like that is from Jim Conforti. he has been tuning BMW's forever and has a standalone unit that can download SW into the DME via the OBD port.
When the new SW is uploaded, the factory SW is saved onto the device - and you can swap between the 2 anytime. This is for the older cars, but he will soon release a version for the N54. Edit: The name of the device is the Shark Injector.

Unfortunately that isnt so different from what GIAC said a year ago. Kinda sounds like... "We still havnt cracked the encryption yet so we cant even start tuning". I really really hope that isnt the case though. I am a total GIAC fanboi.

I had GIAC on my 02 A4 1.8T and my 00 GTI VR6. Very good company as far as pricing and reliability. My 04 R32 ran AMD software (I think that is what it was!)

I talk to Austin@GIAC quite often as he is one of our customers (he runs our S4 SMIC upgrades on his S4) and word from him is that they're close to finishing. I've been bugging him for months now about it. Maybe if I keep bugging them about it, they'd get tired of it and finish

I am currently running GIAC software in my VW GLI 1.8T. I cannot say enough good things about this tuning. The difference in power was amazing and thats in an engine with not nearly the potential as that of the 135i/335i.
I wonder what the 135i could do with twin Borg Warner K03s or K04s? Hmm... |

K03's and even K04's are TINY! I believe the turbos in the 135i are bigger. The space is very tight in the 135i, even more so than the 335i so it's going to be hard to shoehorn in a big turbo. I'm going to have nightmares when I start R&D of our turbo upgrade kit.

For space considerations thats why I thought it was worth looking in to. K03s and K04s are so readily available from the VAG community that cost would be lower. I much prefer smaller tubos due to less turbo lag from quicker spool. This is why BMW went with twin small turbos in the first place. AWE Tuning has a twin K04 upgrade kit for the Audi S4 2.7T that puts out 460 HP on pump gas. Something like that is what I had in mind. |

KKK turbos are garbage. Id rather rock a GT25 or a bigger GT28. As the car become cheaper somebody will figure out a different manifold setup. Look at 2.0T people were having a hard time because of the fueling. Now people are rocking gt2871rs

YES well they did. But if you look at prices its ridiculous almost 5000$ for an APR kit prices will go down as more company start producing them(i.e ATP,Nospeed(Neuspeed) etc)

Why not just go for dual GT2530R turbos?

I think you guys are missing my point, and again it is all what you are looking for.
I have been in several BT cars and found them very disappointing because of the ridiculous turbo lag. To me the only thing they were good for is a drag strip. I would much rather drive a track car / canyon carver. Bigger turbos than stock... absolutely, but I have no desire for BTs that take away the low end torque that make this well balanced machine such a blast to drive. |
