For those hoping for a 1er price reduction

Some of you have indicated that you're gonna wait to buy a 1er when the price is reduced (closer to U.S. pricing). :iono:
The Euro today is trading at $1.61 Canadian.
Less than 5 months ago the Euro traded as low as $1.33 Cdn.
Our dollar may be strong vs the U.S. greenback and there may be a case for lower prices on U.S. built autos, but with a declining Cdn dollar (vs the Euro), I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for price reductions on vehicles built in Euroland..

I don't think anyone is waiting for a PRICE reduction.

There's no question that won't happen.

However, I like others, am waiting for a further reduction in interest rates to more closely match those of the 3 series.

I don't think that's too far-fetched.

I agree that interest rates for leasing or financing the 1er should, and will, come down to match those on the other series.
But there were a number of posts here over the past month where some in Canada believe that Canadian prices for 1ers would drop more to reflect a stronger Canadian dollar vis-a-vis the U.S. dollar.
Assuming our dollar remains weak or continues to deteriorate against the Euro, I don't see that happening.

That doesn't justify US vs Canada pricing disparity. It's more based on market size, in my opinion.

Regardless of what the Canadian dollar is worth vs. the Euro, the Americans are still enjoying a substantial price advantage over Canadians.

I doubt they'll lower the prices, but the interest rates will drop, hell, they already did a little bit.

Germany and England are bigger markets than Canada and they pay more for the 1er than we do, so that theory doesn't appear to hold too much water..
And check out what the Aussies are paying..

It's wonderful that we pay a lot less than most countries, but people in Australia or England don't really have the luxury of driving down to the US and bringing home a new car.

I'm sure car companies are noticing the thousands of vehicles being imported from the US to Canada. Who knows what they'll actually do about it. (I guess BMW figures if they can make $500 on a recall clearance letter this is good enough for them).

I don't think the price will drop in particular for the 128/135i... it isn't a budget brand... when do BMW prices ever randomly go down? (on a side note, I think I read somewhere they DID drop the price for the M coupé)
As far as the price for ALL BMWs in Canada, relative to the US, we may not have seen the end of it yet...

Price drop, no... but at least, some wheeling and dealing involved.

Right now everyone's paying MSRP and honestly, I don't see them "flying" off of lots. BMW North American sales are down 11.5% YTD as of the end of February compared to 2007. Not including Mini in the mix, BMW is down 16.1% as a brand. (Yes, I know these stats do not include 1 series sales.) Regardless, BMW needs to either lower rates, provide incentives or start wheeling and dealing in order to bring the sales figures back up. Sooner or later, something has got to give.

Me... I got my money on "give"... as in $55,000+ for a nicely loaded 135i... "...Give me a break!"

MSRP... bah... I'll pick mine up down the road when the hype dies down.

Cheers... :headbang:

I concur with the majority here. I don't think prices will go down, its called inflation but eventually the interest rates will. Thats a given!! Its common business sense..new model high rates, the next couple of years the model is not so new, hype dies down maybe even demand who knows, then lower interest rates. But i agree with previous poster that people will have alot more bargaining power and will be able to chisel out some discounts.

yes, I agree with the last two posts.
it's a personal choice; I am paying the extra costs (as in not getting any savings and going for a high rate) to have the car ordered NOW...

but they better freaking throw in some floor mats!
