Weird question...
Does anybody have any idea how much power the n54 would make minus the 2 turbos? Just the straight six? Would it be comparable to a 128? If so how much is that?

Weird, but I was wondering the same thing yesterday - I suspect it would be comparable in power to the N52. It's probably making 330 HP at the flywheel now. It's about 8lbs (peaks to 11 lbs) of boost. So subtract about 33% and it may be in the ballpark.
But I beleive this engine was designed from the crank up to take advanagte of the synergies of turbocharging and direct injection. |

It would probably make less power. GENERALLY, most turbo motors have reduced compression etc, to allow for higher boost without detonation.
On my wrx, I lost an uppipe gasket and the thing was seriously worse than driving a little geo metro (of course I was at this point SUCKING air through the turbos). stock for stock, the 128 vs 135i motor without turbos I'd bet the 128 is going to make bigger power. Not to mention the 128 has valvetronic for variable valve lift etc. (they couldnt fit it on the N54) |
