"clutch slip" on E92 335i Steptronic Auto
I am looking at purchasing a 335i 58 plate (Steptronic Auto) with a diagnosed gearbox issue. The car is fairly well-priced and the current owner has stated in the description that
"Whilst it does run and drive there is an issue with a bit of clutch slip when changing into 4/5/6th. Again still perfectly drivable. I had it professionally diagnosed as clutch slip" I would obviously intend on getting the gearbox rebuilt or replaced If I were to purchase the vehicle. Presumably, if he had the issue diagnosed by a garage they would have checked the gearbox fluid, which leads me to believe that the issue could be something a lot more costly to repair. I have already been quoted an estimate of £2k by a mechanic if a rebuild would be required. I was wondering if anybody on this forum has any ideas or suggestions regarding the purchase, potential cause(s) of the issue and realistic costs to resolve it. How likely is "clutch slip" on a ZF auto box? Thanks |

clutch E issues which cause problems in 4/5/6 are very common for 6hp trans. Will need some bushings replaced and probably clutch E friction plates. Might need some mechatronics repairs as well. All in all, probably going to be a complete trans rebuild
