Hi,

I bought a hardwire kit from Amazon. The product description says that the electrical wire is 3.5 meters long, about 11 ft. I think it’s similar to most other hardwire kits we can get on Amazon.

When I tried to install the kit, the 11ft wire was actually too short for my 328i if I wanted to hide the wire properly. I wish it could have been 5 ft longer.

I’d like to ask you how long your hardwire power cord is. If you came across a problem like mine, what did you do to fix it?

Many thanks.

Nick

It would help to know what the wire is for.

It’s the power cord connecting between the dash cam and the hardwire transformer and fuse box. The dash cam is stuck on the windshield but the fuse box in the trunk.

I would have used the fuse box in the engine compartment, if I bothered to go to a fuse at all. There's no need for that unless you want to record 24/7. I took the power for my cam from the power outlet. It turns on when the car is unlocked, shuts down a few minutes after it's locked.

Thanks, I think it’s not easy to wire to the fuse box in the engine compartment. Instead, it seems like a good idea to add an extra power cord to extend the length.

Finally, I bought an electrical wire as an extension wire.

Thank you every one of you for your kind responses and insights.
