Any one going to buy the 125i instead of the 135i?
Hi everyone! I've been reading this forum for quite a while and thought it was time to become 'legit' now and register. So, my first post.
Was wondering if anyone is going to consider the 'cheaper' option? I figure that 0-100 in 6.4 secs isn't bad. I want to use it as a daily driver and thought maybe it might be OK. The car I have now is a low 6 sec car and that's enough for me (obviously the twin turbo is MUCH better but I'd like to save $20K if possible). I wish there were more reviews on this model... oh well, I'll have to wait... So, any thoughts on the 125? Worth getting or not? Decisions, decisions! Thanks in advance... |

So is the US 128i identical to 125i for the rest of the world? I may get a 125i convertible sometime down the track if my missus is interested.

lol same here! I'm going to trade in my 2007 MCS for a 125i around May-June. Pretty sure they come out in May here. I'm going to be getting an Alpine white 125i with red leather and wood trim interior, m sport pack, and i'm still deciding on the wheels. It's either going to be the 261M double spoke, or 264 star spoke. I like both... I really like the 261M wheels, but i also likethe understated looks of the star spokes... hmmm :iono: |

I am sure the 125i will be a great car in every sense. For me though, I wouldn't be satisfied knowing the 135i exists in the range. It's all or nothing for me.

I think 125i will be a sensational car. In fact I see it as a bit of a bargain! It is very much detuned given that it has the same engine as my X3 3.0si and my X3 produce 200kw. I may be interested in a 125i convertible. It looks much better in metal than in picture.

Went into my local BMW dealership today to have a bit of a look. I asked the sales guy about the on the road cost of the 125i with M Sport pack (manual) he took a look at a bit of paper he had, and told me it would be 65k!!!
What's the deal here? $54,400+2300=$56,700 Therefore, on the road costs = $8,300!!! Does this seem a bit excessive? My 2007 MCS was only around 3k? BTW I'm in QLD, I believe we recently had some lame 6 cylinder tax increase. |

Ok here is the deal Car price + Options + Stamp Duty + Luxury car tax + Dealer delivery + Rego Luxury Car Tax is calculated as 25% of the GST exclusive portion of the vehicle purchase price over $57,009. It can be calculated using the following steps:

to be quite honest the 120i is much better than the 118i, feels better and also the the extra power helps. however its no where as near to be compared to a sports car. |

I put my order in yesterday for the 125i. I've also been limited to the 125i simply because of budget - the mortgage is still top priority. Here's a photoshopped rendition of my new ride when it arrives in July. Manual, Sparkling Graphite, Boston Red leather, M Sports pack, 18" 207 rims, sunroof, navigation, Bi-Xenon headlights.

What did that end up costing on the road Cozza? You've whacked a fair few options on there, couldn't have been too far away from a bare bones 135i?

Acquisition costs aside, getting insurance on a 'twin turbo' (yes, i know its technically parallel bi-turbo, but insurance companies don't differentiate, trust me) car if you are under 25 is just too hard, and even if you can wrangle it (as im sure i could have) it would costs a bomb! Especially these days, as recently i've heard of Maserati etc having no under 30 driver requirements on their policies.
Also, has anyone else noticed the following: the 130i and the 125i have identical N52B30 engines with the same capacity (2996), same stroke/bore (88/85; undersquare) and same compression ratio (10.7). However, the 130i is rated at 195Kw and 350nm whereas the 125i is rated at 160Kw and 270nm. This represents a significant difference between the two vehicles. Anyone know why this is? I'll probably post this as a separate topic anyways, but i thought i'd ask! Cheers folks! |

Yeah they are the same engine apparently. Just detuned I suspect. In the old days, the 323i had 125kw, then when they released the 325i, it had 145kw. They were the same engine.
As for insurance, yes, a lot of high end cars have over 30 clause. I could not have insured my Aston if I was under 30 (I am 32), and I paid alot less for my 911 when I got it at 30 compared to my Boxster S which I had when I was 25. |
