choosing front spoiler

Can anyone explain to me what differences to expect in the materials for body kits mainly our front splitters and spoiler lip. Fiberglass (light), urethane (strong), etc...

It seems here that most prefer urethane parts. How about Hybrid FRP (dtm hartge replicas) and carbon fiber (OEM lower lip).

Relate this to real world use aswell. curb rubs, parking space dividers, etc.

thanks

I have a urethane front spoiler on my Maxima and I really like it since it does have the ability to bend and not chip paint if I hit a curb. Fiberglass will crack as well as paint. They use something called flexin to prevent paint from cracking.

fiberglass although can be fixed easily has a tendency to chip easier and doesnt have the flexibility that is inherent w/ PU...conversely PU is very difficult to fix should there be crack/tear.

Personally, i prefer PU as it's more durable than FG...

fibreglass kits tend to crack more easily and is less durable than PU. agree with foofighter.

The idea behind carbon fiber is that it's light and rigid, ideal for maintaining shape/form for its supposed function--to attenuate air as it hits the front. Fiberglass can crack easily. ABS or Polyurethane is more flexible, and can withstand accidental scrapes or run ins with obstructions (i.e., curbs or parking blocks).

I don't have an E90 yet. I wasn't really looking for brand recommendations but the pros/cons. Not that we have much choice in material once we've made up our minds on a part we like.

But since it was brought up. Hartge replica by DTM + BBS on AW would truely be heaven. I'm on a budget.

thanks for the breakdown guys.
