Exclamation If you're not grindin'....

Your not shinin'

Who is considering lowering their 1series? After seeing a friends s2000 on Rein TA coilovers I made up my mind. Mine wont be too drastic but a nice decrease in height can totally change a cars profile positively. Negatively too if you're not careful.

This lowered 1 looks mighty nice too.

While I think the stock 1's height is quite a bit better than most, I'm sure I'll want to bring it down a notch. Especially if put some 19"s on it.

Do we know any of the details of the black one pictured?

I can't recall if there were significant changes to the coupe's suspension over the existing hatch (ie: that would necessitate different springs), I would expect springs for the 5 door and the hatch would be pretty much exactly what we're looking for.

That said, wasn't I hearing something about how BMW softened things up a bit for the coupe (and princess Americans who think they can feel a pea under 10 feet of down) over the hatch? I can't come up with a cite atm, but I recall several journalists griping about a harsh hatch ride remedied in the coupe.

To get to the point, I'm wondering if springs designed for the euro hatch wouldn't be excessively harsh on the coupe. Since "excessive" is relative, I guess I mean a more significant change in ride quality than expected.

Clearly, we don't know at this point, but any thoughts on that?

Garage List
2008 135i  [6.80]
Def not a lot of ppl fail to realize most gap is left for when the passengers get in which could be up to 400+ lbs if it is two guys heading to the track. This is why the front end is sticking up in pics.... Notice in car magazine pics they have ppl in the car most of the time for shots.

I installed springs and then tein edfc on My Sti .... Never again. Such a harsh ride I am going to leave it the way BMW intended unless BMW has something heh

That a good point Izzo. I dont buy my car for passengers though. I rarely used my rear seats in my previous cars anyway. I mean there are plenty of production multipassenger cars that have less wheel gap than the 1 series.

I have coilovers on my 332ti, that have integral Koni adjustable shocks. When they are adjusted to a softer setting, the ride is better than with Bilsteins alone. I can change them to full stiff in 20 seconds though (literally).

Depending on your setup, it doesn't have to be like riding with no suspension.

Personnally I'm just a fan of ground clearance...like being able to go over speedbumps, handle most standard drive grades, etc.

That and you as symmetrical of a gap around the tire as possible, IMO it looks like crap when the fender gap is say 2" on the sides of the tire, and 1/4" on the top I'd rather have a big gap then a lop-sided one.

That said, in pictures the hieght looks good to me, if say the gap at the top wasy/is bigger then on the sides, then it would need a bit of lower.

Nobody seems to know the details on this one and what suspension work was done. I'd really like to find out because this is exactly what I'm going for.

I had a 73 911 that was lowered to european racing specs. Looked great. Handled great. Turned a lot of heads. I would never do it again. I couldn't take it anywhere. Drug and scraped on everything. Daily driver = no! Track car = Oh yeah! YOMV

Normal production cars [read: anything but Ferrari, Koenigsegg, and the like] look LAME until they're lowered until the wheels are at least IN the wheelwells. None of this 4x4 stuff unless I'm buying a 4x4!

OT: That S2k in the 1st post is smoldering-smokin' hot!
