Opening Navi screen

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on how the Navi screen flips up. Is there a button somewhere that does this. I've studied pictures of the dash and can't see anything that might flip it up.

There isn't a dedicated button for opening the screen, it happens automatically depending on the setting in iDrive. There are a few options (like when the fob is inserted, I read it on babybmw.net).

One person on babybmw mentioned he had it mapped to a button on the steering wheel so I guess this is option too. That'll be fun for surprising passengers!

I have a 135i with navi and it opens when you start the car. I also assigned one of the steering wheel buttons to open and close. Through the nav system you can custom set up when it opens and closes... like when there is an incoming call etc.

It only opens when you start the car if it was open when you turned off the engine.

I'm trying to keep my navigation closed. I go into the display menu and uncheck all events but the darn thing keeps popping up everytime I turn on the engine.

Is there something else I have to do to keep it closed?

The easiest way is probably to program one of the steering wheel buttons to open & close it.

Oh that's not the problem. I unchecked everything in the iDrive menu but the nav still automatically opens most times I start the car. Sometimes it doesn't automatically. A bit inconsistency.

at one time i turned mine so it wouldn't open when i started the car ... it would still open when the radio was left on and then i started the car ... perhaps i missed one of the check boxes. if the audio system wasn't on it would stay shut.

When the navi screen is down, I think the large button below the iDrive dial opens the navi screen. Also, I sometimes close it by pushing down on the iDrive dial while in the main opening screen to bring up the menu that includes the "close display" option. Its the last option to the right.

That's what I did, but I find I always have it open.

Not available on '08 models. It is available on '09 models with the new telematics unit that comes with the car.
