I think the iPod Interface for $320 is a dealer installed option. The iPod/USB for $400 is a factory installed option. You don't need both of them. From the website:

Ok...so if you drive your car off the lot, say in 2 months can you come back in have the iPod interface adapter installed?

Not the factory installed (USB-AUX/6FL option)... you could get the dealer installed accessory, though...

Ok that was my question..I want to find out if I really need it, and if I do, I'll just go back to the dealer and get the dealer installed one :-)

So if you don't get the interface adapter ($320), but you do get the USB/iPod interface ($400), does that just mean I can't control my iPod with the steering wheel controls?

Both adapters control the iPod:

Factory installed USB/AUX http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...99&postcount=1

Dealer installed MOST http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...09&postcount=1

The main difference is that the USB/AUX adapter allows you the addition of a CD Changer. The Dealer installed MOST adapter does not (it mimics the CD Changer). There are GUI differences as well (the USB adapter can show you Playlist names, the MOST adapter only show you "CD1", "CD-2" and so on)...

Personally, I would like to listen to both adapters first before opting for either one: the USB uses the AUX port, the MOST adapter uses the CD Changer audio inputs.

Personally, I would like to listen to both adapters first before opting for either one: the USB uses the AUX port (headphone jack of the iPod), the MOST adapter uses the Line Out port of the iPod (bottom connector) for signal input into the OEM system. I don't like at all the AUX input sound quality of the iPod...
What? The link you provided clearly shows the ipod dock connector.

If you choose this route be prepared for a HEFTY labor charge for the dealer install. It is common for MINI dealers to charge $500 to $600 for the install--YIKES!

What sort of an Ipod readout are you going to get if you don't take the Nav option on the 1 series?

So that's like a one line display I imagine - not great for finding songs on a playlist....

See this thread for what the nav and non-nav equipped cars will display. I posted multiple shots of each option.
