Rear spoiler delete
I don't like the "integrated rear spoiler" on the 135i. It looks tacky. It's just another area to collect dirt and crud. Easier to wash and wax without it. Does it offer any performance function whatsoever? I don't think so, but possibly at 150mph? For better rear downforce?
So the question is: Is it bolted down such that removal would leave holes? Or is it an easy "rear spoiler delete" option? Does anybody actually like it? It seems mimicky trying compete with the EVO and STI, etc. Silly. The trunk lid itself is already beautifully formed with the subtle rise. Why ruin it.:iono: |

My guess is that it would be attached with adhesive. It looks as though it's only cosmetic, I doubt if it offers any real dynamic downforce advantage, but who knows? Maybe it was tested in the BMW wind tunnel etc.

despite it looking unsubstantial, i cant imagine BMW tacking anything on a car that wasnt put there for a reason and purposeful to the cars performance. I could see how it would possibly look better without it, and i am interested as to how it is attatched, but i wouldnt want to mess with perfection in removing it

Here's how it looks without the spoiler. I think it looks much cleaner/more-genuine/truer-to-form. The entire new bodywork of the 1er (compared to previous generation BMWs) is all about smooth skin, not add-on trims. So to find it on the 135i is disappointing. I cannot imagine how such a small, thin, tacked-on piece of moulding strip makes for perfection, especially performance perfection.

swap decklids with someone with a 128 that wants the spoiler!
I think it looks better without it also. much smoother and cleaner (I also am a debadge advocator, so I guess thats just my style). I also can't imagine that it makes much (if any) difference with aerodynamics. Even if it does, its probably only at speeds that the computer won't let me get to. |

The 135i's Gurney Flap is without a doubt helpful in reducing rear axle lift.....at much higher speeds than we can get away with in the U.S.A. without getting seriously arrested and brutalized with batons.
If you want to remove it for aesthetic reasons, please don't go comparing notes as to how your car feels when it's bouncing off it's speed limiter.

I'm waiting for the following post:
"I got a homie with a 135i and I wanted to swap deck lids with him, but the little spoiler just wasn't phat enough. What do you guys think of this wing for my 128i:" |

BMW put it there to make it different from the 128i. For the same reason my ZHP has it and normal 330i's dont. Its part of the M-Package body kit...
I really doubt it helps hold the rear in place at high speeds, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure what the normal 330i has for a speed limiter, but my ZHP is at 155 and I've been there. Maybe 155mph limited cars are suppose to have it? My car felt solid, but so did my buddies e90 325i (`06) ZSP without a lip on the trunk... I'm sure its just adhesive, so get you some fishing line and a heat gun. Not too hot though, you dont want to buble the paint... I like it, but I'm partial too as my ZHP has one similar to it...

It reminds me of the M3 lip spoiler.
